Are there growth opportunities for Peer Specialists? My bipolar disorder led to a 20-month incarceration, but my prior career was sales / account management for FinTech orgs. The CPS role seems like a way out of the menial labor jobs I'm now facing (retail), but is there anywhere to go in the field beyond the role and $17 / hour? I like the idea of the job, I just hope there's a possibility to build a life on the salary.
Married to a gambler. In 10 years I'd paid off a $260,000 mortgage and he got $60,000 in debt from gambling. But he still thinks he's going to win the "big one" one day. He won $2,000 but said he'd spent $2,500 or more to get that. Totally illogical.
This is destructive (gambling addiction) to adults, yet we allow randomized loot boxes etc in games that even little kids play. The mechanism is the same, I would imagine we will see more and more people stuck in this cycle
the fact that mental health is thrown in with substance abuse is insulting for people with mental health issues! No one injected Depression / Bipolar disorder in their veins, nor did they pop a pill, or take a drink. Mental health issues was not a choice!!!!! completely insulting!
I'd argue while taking a drink or popping a pill is a choice, being an addict is not. I don't know the statistics off hand but I'm guessing there is a huge crossover and dual diagnosis is becoming much more common.

your right on that.if they wanted to fix the system look at portugal.they legalized everything because the war on drugs doesnt and will never work . in portugal overdoses death crime and use went down .they changed there approach on the matter in 2001 i think .

Its bullshit us with an addiction lose rights. People who have never suffered from it get to jack off with the local cops. Yes the best news for a heroin addict is knowing I have to go with debilitating withdrawal and I'm being forced to do. I'll gladly go if my mom has to go through the worst pain of her life and will not be able to sleep in that intense pain for two weeks. Fair trade. I wish I want a heroin addict.
