I also hated the battel - so silly even in a television context. The first wave of a smallish orc band breaks the walls simply. What was it made from? Certainly not elven architecture
Robert, have you discussed at some point (and correct me if I'm wrong), but wouldn't Galadriel have been ruler of Eregion before Celebrimbor in cannon timelines?
GRRM says that killing Maelor messes up the story even though he's pointless and dies early anway. He's fine with them making the Velaryons black and completely upsetting the entire Targaryen dynasty though?
Thank you, Robert for answering my question about Sauron being thrown down. Your answer really clears up a lot and the quote from The Silmarillion makes total sense with your answer. You always take the time to be thorough in your responses and that means a lot to me!
I know that myself and my friends have discussed how much we'd love to re-read all the books before WoW comes, but we never get round to it. I'd love to hear semi-indepth breakdowns of each book. Not chapter by chapter, but just like the cliff notes. Because rewatching the series past S5 is a no 😂 and besides, the series miss out several characters, etc
@IDG Live suggestions for covering the D&E show -> 1. No breakdowns but lore difference videos where we systemically track the butterfly effect episode by episode 2. Episode specific topic deep dives (maybe ep 1's deep dive can be about Ser Arlan's character study) 3. Recommend using the live streams to do your original episode breakdowns & questions The logic behind the above is that, I suspect breakdown videos are being done by the more general channels especially because the books are out, hence low views for the hardcore channels. The above style of videos can ensure viewers come to your channel purely to "geek" out "in depth" (that's me with a pun on "In Deep Geek 😊)
Celeborn was captured and broke free but can’t get out of Orc Territory so he has been pretending to be one. He’s gonna be one of the orcs that saw Galadriel and Elrond kiss so he gonna be all salty and jelly and mmmaaaadd when we first see him. 🙄
@@vitaminj7 why are you wasting your time commenting on us lamenting the lazy writing that is ruining something we hoped would be wonderful? Why can't you just move along and let us express disappointment that talentless hacks are destroying something we used to enjoy? 🫤
The kiss was clearly an act to distract from Elrond handing over the brooch pin thing to Galadriel. I don't think it was supposed to be a legit romance between the two.
his early reign ideas like building a second wall do sound a bit mad as well tbh, which makes me wonder how his reign would have gone if Tywin hadn't pulled the strings in the right direction.
Re: pipeweed addiction, "I know what is the matter with me, " he muttered as he sat down by the door. "I need smoke! I have not tasted it since the morning before the snowstorm."
A Thingol and Melian character study would make for a great livestream! I've never found the story of their romance, life together, and family to be very compelling. Was Melian on a mission? Did Thingol give consent? Was his consent not sought because he was such a jerk? What was Luthien's relationship with her parents like? Certainly, Melian had a sense that her daughter's story would not end well - did she care, or was that the plan all along? The other maiar seemed to have a mission. Why aren't we privy to Melian's? Or was she just in humanoid form so long that she just became more of an elf in her identity over time. Personally, I like the idea that she and Thingol filed for divorce in the Undying Lands...
Feanor did not inherit the 'throne' or 'headship' of the Noldor. While he claimed the kingship, the most part of the Noldor refused to renounce the kingship of Fingolfin. In Middle-earth, Maedhros yielded his claim, in favor of the more rightful claim of Fingolfin.
They logically should've given The One ring to Gimli instead of Frodo, but nooooooo! They needed all the fun that came with Frodo and other hobbits to make em part of story. Gimli was the only person whose initial reaction to seeing ring , was to destroy it with his axe, while everyone else were trying to find a way to have it for themselves.
You know how sad I am that the winds of winter and the last book will never get released. George has no plan on finishing the books, I have spent so much time and released it is never coming.
I do believe that Elendil and gilgalad delivered a huge amount of damage to Sauron. Isildur came upon an incredibly weakened Sauron when he cut the ring. The lore alludes to Sauron’s spirit being driven from his body because of Gilgalad and Elendil’s attack.
There’s also the meta textual element that both books are said to be translation from there original language into English so one could say that these could be places where a untranslatable term was used and replaced with something the audience would understand.
One of the best lines from Stannis is in that pre-release chapter. He says something like “lord too-fat butchered my onion knight” and I really felt for him 😭
everyone thinks the wording of toxic butterflies means he's saying the changes are toxic, but I thought of it as just he doesnt agree with the changes, causing a butterfly effect, and is playfully using the fact that his books literally include toxic butterflies that kill everyone not native to the island. Like yeah, he doesnt like the changes, and they're bad, but the word toxic is just an easteregg imo
They were some of the weakest complaints I've seen. I was actually a little disappointed that this is where he drew the line and not any of the other major issues
The barrow wights: modern people might think it's strange for people to live among the barrows as Robert states, but remember that Rohan also had their barrows right near the houses. In the Game of Thrones universe Winterfell is built right on top of their barrows. And IRL when the US was young people in the West often buried their dead on their own property because there were no graveyards yet.
24:20 i think the dark and bameless things tease last week is supposed to prepare us for dark things bieng let out them Mt Doom explodes and causes earthquakes. The Watcher probably bieng one eventually. The first episode they showed us these creatures are Drawn to Sauron but also Fear him.
Ohh you’re right, especially with the appearance of the spider. The actor that plays Isildur confirmed it is a much younger Shelob. I didn’t notice when I watched, but he said he also purposefully stabbed her in the eye to leave the scar we see in LOTR. Shelob showing up at Mordor fits with that.
Yes! I always thought this! Arya was Cat of the Canals - warged into a cat. Sansa was followed by a bird (familiar?) when we last saw her leaving the Eyrie
@@alicetoyou448 how do you know my motives for posting? At face value, I’m criticizing RoP & IDG for platforming RoP content. Any other motive ascribed to me without asking a very basic (and quite easy) “why” is an assumption, perhaps a projection.
