This is the game A's fans lost their minds thinking that it was fan interference but you can plainly see he leaped and the ball was over and passed his glove when the fan reached out there was no way he was catching it and its not a tough call! I am a New Yorker. We all cried with Boston the day of the bombing. Then when I heard that Neil Diamond showed up and surprised everybody for the Red Sox first game after the bombing, I cried again.
I was at this game as an 11 year old, my second Sox game! I had no idea that two days later a legendary comeback would occur in this same series. Wish I had been at that one!

It is somewhat of a good thing this call was blown. The umpires claiming that they couldn’t see that the ball hit the railing on the monitors at Progressive Field is what led to the revamp of replay in the very next season that, most importantly, added the ability to challenge safe and out calls at bases. Now if only we could have a system for reviewing balls and strikes and we would be all set and not have a weekly compilation’s worth of bad zone calls.
This was the 19th and final year of Mariano Rivera’s stellar career. This was his 2nd blown save in a row, and this was the only time in those 19 years he blew back to back saves
