Well you have to teach them every style of play Its about win the game and adapt to your opponent If zone defense will get you W then be it if not just adapt with man to man
You completely missed the point. When you're learning new things, you are not good at them. Winning games typically requires doing things you're good at. So learning new things and trying to win games are often opposing goals. That's what he's talking about. Playing zone makes it easier to win against other beginner players. But if you're doing that all of the time trying to win, then you're not learning other things you'll need when the competition improves.
@@JCPRuckus thanks for the explanation I used to teaching basketball to kids in my neighborhood As i mentioned before, i taught them every set of play that i know Including zone and man to man defense So, we are not sticking to zone only if man to man will give us more possibility to win a game
@@RinaldiHidayat - The last sentence makes me suspect that you still don't understand the point being made. The point of youth sports isn't winning. The point is learning and practicing skills so that you have those skills later on when winning matters... When those kids are in high school no one is going to care how many games they won as 8 year olds. But when they're getting scouted for scholarships, whether they have mastered basic skills is going to make a difference. If you're trying to win games with 8 y/os instead of giving them opportunities to practice their skills in game situations, then you're doing them a disservice. It's not about running zone. That's just an example. The point is that winning doesn't (or shouldn't) matter in youth sports, because the best thing for the kids is improving their skills, regardless of if they win or lose.
I think youth basketball teaches you a lot about working with other people and their personalities to build a TEAM, respect of your competitors, and having humility. Those skills transcend throughout your life. Some of his points were pretty accurate but me and some other kids aged (10/13) would constantly beat college kids at the local gym and my one buddy could shoot 3s with his left.
