It’s more about who you know in the trade nowadays. I’ve had some right battles with other dealers. I then get them ringing up a few weeks later asking for the same thing. I’ve now got a personal sh!t list of dealers, who I now won’t supply any info to.
main dealer tech here, you used to get 0.3hrs [18 mins] to change a pollen filter, now you get zero, but still expected to do it, easy to work that one out... the same with fuel filters + brake fluid change... i personally do them, but never make bonus, no good to the young lads with mouths to feed...
That MOT scam is deadly. I hope that you advised the lady to report the issue to the police. If somebody is unscrupulous enough to forge an MOT certificate they clearly will be unscrupulous enough to deceive about other things.
so can you lose your liscene for a offence that was commited before holding a full one. so i got caught for driving in march by august 1st passed my test only just been told i need to go to court am i screwed or is it a very gray area?

I change my own pollen filter every 2 to 3 years Before I fit the new one i use the vacuum cleaner to clean out the area where the pollen filter fits in. With the air filter I fit a k&n performance platform filter and clean or change it every 3 years. You can change the k&n filter later than a standard paper one due to better materials and filtration. Oil & filter change every year with mobil 1 fully synthetic oil. If you want something doing right do it yourself. Been servicing my own cars for 35 years and it ain't rocket science to service your car yourself. Get learning folks.
I always change air and pollen filters annually on my customers cars regardless of mileage as they are affected by damp and bacteria forms creating smell especially on pollen filters, I have recently serviced a four year old alfa and air and pollen filters had never be changed ( date stamp being the clue) . Original owner had probably be paying a fortune for services!
It’s appalling the main dealership charge a small fortune for servicing the customers cars and yet the basics like pollen and air filters are not changed. It’s disgusting
You go on about main dealers and another one is automatic gearboxes that are not down for auto transmission fluid changes because they are ‘sealed for life’ along with filters being long life, it’s all about being fooled , all vehicles need regular maintenance , period no exceptions in my book.
I WORK FOR A VAG SPECIALIST: POLLEN FILTER SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 24 MONTHS REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. SADLY THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION IS MOST AIR FILTERS ARE NOW AT 60K AND HAVE NO RECOMMENDED TIME INTERVAL. WE ALWAYS DO OIL, AIR, FUEL AND POLLEN EVERY FULL SERVICE. BIZARRELY BRAKE FLUID IS ANOTHER ITEM OFTEN OVERLOOKED. SHOULD BE DONE EVERY 2 YEARS DUE TO ITS HYGROSCOPIC NATURE.
It seems quite common to leave the Pollen and air filters two to three years nowadays. Mine and my wife's Mazdas and daughters last two Audi's have been the same when serviced by the main agents to the manufacturers specs. Out of warranty I do my own services and change the lot annually.
I made the mistake of buying my 2013 Fiat 500 from one of those car supermarket places , it was at a bargain price £3 grand for a 2013 with 80 thousand on clock Mot to dec and a warranty but they never told me the clutch and gearbox was bad , they did cover half the cost under warranty but yeah that was why the car was a grand under the book value , Best car dealer I've been to in the UK is RSG Motor Group based in Sunninghill i bought an i10 from there and that car never went wrong sadly someone hit me in the side and it got wrote off , I regret buying the Fiat as they are not as reliable as Hyundai but yeah most dealers like yourself have to do a lot of work on cars as obviously you don't want no come backs from the customers and i think I'm right that under consumer rights act they have like 6 months to change their minds ? Also just to give you the heads up theres a man on youtube called DJE Media and he has a channel called Audit the Dealer this crazy man randomly will turn up at a dealership and film you , he tried it in Birmingham and a load of blokes chased him out of the dealership LOL but yeah im spreading the warning to all dealers as this DJ guy is 1 sandwich short of a picnic lol
