As many times as the same names were reused. I cant believe we never got names like: Terrific, Pacific, Stoic, Aquatic, Athletic(that would make a great olympic class ship for obvious reasons) Iconic, Acrobatic, Esthetic, Basic, Tyrannic, Gigantic, Dramatic, Comic, Magic, Music, Melodic, Acoustic,… ok you get the idea:)
"the politicians were afraid it would make THEM look bad" That is the least amount of suffering they should experience for that asinine policy that directly contributed to this disaster. They ought to have been afraid but for another reason entirely!
Was the White Star line bought by Cunard later? Also Thomas, I asked you before about the Andrea Gale but the most fascinating sea story of all to me is that of the muntiny on the Bounty. I saw The Bounty copy in CA but I wonder if after its sinking in hurricane Sandy, was it ever been raised or have attempts been made? I doubt that today's fancy cruise ships have marble fireplaces or as many high-class amenities as the cruise ships back then. Great menu indeed & ten courses, wow. Thx so much Thomas.
As a child we would go through Centralia on the way to our hunting camp. For us it was neat to see burnt trees and smoke rising from the ground. Now I know how horrible the situation is and was.
Despite living within day-trip distance of Granite, I've only ever been there once about 5 or 6 years ago, and it was at a time where Main Street was really the only accessible part of town. I'd love to go there again one day and see more of the town, and perhaps see if the one precariously leaning building I remember is still standing. Philipsburg is an awesome place to visit! Anyone planning to come to Western Montana should go there at least once. There are many sapphire mines and even an old candy store, as well as several museums. Even as a Montana resident, I love going to Philipsburg on occasion as just something to do.
This was terrible. Im i only one that seen the Freemason and satanic sign on that man and his wife tomb stones. It shows they where apart of those evil cults.
Video aside im the type to drown in 7-10 ft water i can swim horizontally and float on my back but i cant just sit in place and float for some reason . So drowning would be pretifying to me
I remember going to that information center when I was a kid. The employees played a game with kids, they'd offer two bowls and you could pick one. One had real coal, the other had candy coal, you had to deduce which was which. Still drive through crowsnest a couple times a year
I remember first learning about this wreck from a Pentrex Documentary, the Thunderbolt 1000 did one as an episodes of his train wrecks years later series, but this is the best one I've ever seen of this wreck.
Thurmond was the filming location for most of the movie "Matewan." I got to go each day where the action was set up and go through to the post office. I got to meet several actors who starred in that movie. If you get a chance, watch it and you will see a 1980s version of Thurmond. I worked at Wildwater Unlimited at the time, which was a rafting company and this was a special time as some of the people who worked for Wildwater Unlimited had bit parts in the movie. One of the owner's of Wildwater lived up in one of those houses, their names were Jon and Melaine Dragan. I'm loving your documentary! It's bringing back memories I've cherished for a lifetime!
I wonder if a fire could have started and they abandoned ship only for the fire to be snuffed out either by the fumes choking out the oxygen or the storm water swamping it?
I only wish I had 100k, I would put that money down without thinking. This part of History deserves to be saved and preserved. It's twin went down with Olympic's younger twin, this is the only audible manner in which we can bring that era of travel and history back to life again. All we have of the RMS Olympic (in South Africa anyways) is the Grand Staircase Candelabra (or should I say a manipulated version of it); but this piano on the other hand is living testament and tribute to ALL 4-funnelled RMS ladies that ever came to be; I so wish I could see it one day or at least have it in an Art and Musical history museum where children learning about maritime and music history can hear this instrument.
