I know its been 3yrs already, but I hope somebody will answer my inquiry. Will this cm108 mod work as well if I am going to use mobile base radio instead of bf888? tnx 7-3
I have the same radio but ham radio it different now, the interest are gone for many peoples, To comunicate you need a repeater can push your signal far enough to reach the one you communicate with, but with the lack of communication protocol the use of those different ham radio people lose interest using it., A free frequency don't exist I presume, Remember Transmitter Radio Can Save Life so many professional use them in some case you may need a permit to use that radio lol., Well averything are digital now with discrambler system and auto patch satellite communication and more., So radio are for professional Only This is Alfa.. Tango.. Charly.. Peace.
Well, just found this and it’s 3 yrs down the road, I’m *very* surprised that you haven’t hit the 1000 likes yet but here’s mine, just in case!! Loved the Idiots’ Guide videos, BTW😊
Hello I'm Volker and my silver one have a short on the OLED pins up to the head. I file this pins away and make them shorter. Also to mention is the worst WIFI connection in case of the in my eyes to small slots on the antenna side the longest slot is 19.44mm this is for 2.46GHZ way to short - I want to cut my slots out to a bigger slot. 73
Nice video Ben. I’m a new Ham, passed my foundation on the 1st July and live near Sleaford. I’m also a member of the Heckington & District Radio Group and interested in contesting. I’ve been learning how to use N1MM but was disappointed there was no UKAC or FMAC contest in the list. Your video filled the gap nicely so now looking forward to cutting my teeth in a contest very soon. Cheers.
I don't know if Ben is a vicar, but he's got the most vicar-like face I've ever seen. I was really surprised by how far my Baofeng would pick up signals from. I'm on the river, north of Liverpool. I'd regularly pick up signals from deep into Liverpool, as far north as Southport and right across the Mersey into the Wirral. I think I was picking up transmissions from repeaters that were on high masts, hills, etc and the river gave me a nice lack of obstructions. But I estimate I was getting signals from 15 miles North, 10 miles South and somewhere between the two across the river. I found it much more interesting than listening on my SDR, where the lack of a decent antenna meant it was rare I'd pick up anything aside from what I could hear on my wife's DAB.
How can you get on your local repeater before you have a licence? You can listen, sure. But wouldn't you annoy people if you tried to talk without a call sign?
I bought it first and kept transmitting on every single frequency trying to find someone to speak to I have found none and it’s been 3 years and I’m still trying to
Please don't say "Hello RU-vid" it is so impersonal, hi subscribers is good I do love the video first timer here just starting out on the AmHam road I have booked a course with Essex Ham for the 3rd Aug and hoping that I can become at least a novice radio operator, I don't have a call sign as yet but looking forward to starting this new adventure as a 71 year old.
I have seen many videos using speaker wire to make an antenna. This is the first one I have seen where it was also used as a balanced feed line. Brilliant! It never occurred to me to use it for the feed line as well.
Just bought a low power portable HF rig and thought I would start building simple antennas starting with a 20m dipole. But using the twin feed as a balanced line makes this antenna ideal & lightweight for portable use. I never saw it either but it makes such good sense.
From my understanding of antennas I would have thought a 49-1 would have been a better choice due to high impedance on End-Fed wire, and a 9-1 would be better suited to a Random wire. But well done on the detective work. Shaun M3ULT

Hi Ben Great Video. Just finished set up. just one question. When logged into the test server all i am giving is a dead key. I can receive/ hear every thing that is going on. even logged into Putty to boost audio but no joy
TY for the upload it helped me a lot the only issue i am having is i have a baofeng BF-F8HP and on the Tone i see 000.000 HZ but i cant comprehend it how you supposed to add the Tone 0.6 if the TONE is 0.6 do i add 000.006 or 006.000 or 6000.000 because per the local Repeater it just says Tone 0.6 + Thnx forgive me for the confusion
I started this 3 years ago. After dancing two sound cards i became Ill and. Abandoned project. Ended up learning about the NHS instead Hi 9 weeks inside , was interesting, i adapted plus the smart phone provided ham radio due to all these nodes with echolink. NHS has wireless access , once setup, it will work at any hospital in Wales.. After my Aorta valve replacement,i am back to normal. Only just beginning to get back to my past projects. Did get the hot spot pi star working well with dmr. I have 2 spare pi and a pi4. Cm108 audio board still have. Thanks for your info.
