I live really close to this swamp and basically grew up around it. I remember when I was younger, me and my dad would go down the pearl river in a small metal boat and go swimming. We would also go into the swamp all the time. Miss that time.

Great wilderness tour. Nature at its best. Rule #1. NEVER put your hands on the gunnels (side of the boat rails).This is real, not Hollywood. You will be safe as long as you follow the rules, BUT one short moment of forgetfulness and you’ll remember it forever.

Thank you so much for your prompt response! We are going with 2 families and some want to snorkel and others don’t, so this may be a good option. Was it booked through Royal? Also, if you have suggestions for Cozumel and Costs Maya I welcome them!
@FarmtoTravel
@FarmtoTravel 2 месяца назад
Yes we booked through Royal. In Costa Maya, our favorite excursion is 7 colors lagoon in Bacalar. The best water I’ve ever seen! We have a video on it. It’s an hour and 15 min drive though…freshwater and beautiful safe village of Bacalar. In Cozumel, I get a taxi and avoid big group excursions to beach clubs. There’s an amazing beach club named Playa Palancar. Absolutely the BEST beach in Cozumel. If you get off the ship at 8:30 and head straight to the taxi stand, tell them you want a van to playa Palancar beach club. It’s about a 20 min drive. You will have the whole place to yourself until about 11am. Good food and drinks, great service! $20pp includes chairs, umbrellas, table, showers, and lockers. There’s also a boat that will take you snorkeling for $35pp to El Cielo and Palancar Reef. This is possibly the BEST snorkeling you will do in your life! We’ve been to Australia, Bahamas, and elsewhere, but no snorkeling has compared to this $35 trip off of Playa Palancar Beach Club. Our guide Felipe took us out the first week of June just last month. I will never do anything else in Cozumel. If you need to skip a day, Costa Maya is our least favorite unless we make the long and expensive trip to Bacalar.

Hi, You mention the option of snorkeling for an additional $. Can you pay this once you are on the island? Or would this be a different "tour" you purchase separately? Enjoyed your video!
@FarmtoTravel
@FarmtoTravel 2 месяца назад
Thanks! It was $20 cash or card on site. No pre-booking. You can also use a free two person kayak and do your own snorkeling if you want to paddle a bit. The gorgeous reef was about 200 meters outside the swimming area and an easy paddle. The boat tour we went on had flippers, life jackets, masks, and a guide to point out lobsters, stingrays, and other marine life we saw. It was beautiful! Still not as good as El Cielo and Palancar in Cozumel, but this is a great spot in Roatan! Enjoy your trip!

I can't find this as a RC excursion but found many elsewhere. If you booked elsewhere, how did you book transport from Costa Maya to Bacalar?
@FarmtoTravel
@FarmtoTravel 2 месяца назад
It’s called 7 colors lagoon on RC app, but you can also find a taxi willing to take you there for the entire day. Beware of getting ripped off if you walk out without a booking in Costa Maya. Viator and some other reputable 3rd party sites might have tours available here. It’s well worth it!!!

We lived near there in the 90s. I've jumped from the top of those falls 50, maybe 100 times. It's like hitting a bubble bath pillow, but the current slams you around. Too far out, left, right, you hit rock. If you don't jump away from the waterfall ledge there's a rock. Now they don't even want folks to swim. I always swam and checked for debris first. Ice cold clear water. Loved it there.
