I love the FA so much I have three of them. Also have the FG. However, objectively, the 90's AF Nikon SLR's are better cameras, but there is a joy factor that the FA has that makes it pure pleasure to use. And that matrix metering works perfectly and flash is brilliant. Nikon got it right with this camera.

The Les Paul Studio is the focus of today's video. I am sure to cover the Strat and Tele in other video's still being developed. This particular video was identifying the unique features on my personal LP Studio. Full sized trapezoids, Ebony fingerboard, LP Custom gold tuning keys, Maple top in place of the standard alder and a solid one piece mahogany body are all features not normally found on a Les Paul Studio model.

Found this video because I’m a Canon fan. Started with the AE-1 when they came out and moved to the A-1 quickly. Since then I’ve picked up the AV-1, and the AT-1, but have really fell in love with the sleeper EF. It’s a very nice camera and gets used much more than my 5D Mkii. BTW… I discourage the use of the magic marker. These cameras have a history and maybe even a personality and don’t believe we should hide these “battle scars”.

Thanks for such a thorough explanation of connecting the AE Motor Drive FN to the F-1 New camera body. Just a couple of additional bits of info: - the electronics port on the rear panel of the motor unit is a connection for power and shutter release when using the Film Chamber FN which holds around 100 exposures of film. It has its own grip and shutter release, as well as motors to move the film. -the small circular connection to the right of the tripod socket isn't electrical. It's actually a mechanical "booster" for the system that moves the aperture during shutter priority AE. Without the winder or motor drive, this is a manual or Aperture Priority camera only. Side note: although the AE finder officially allows you to use Aperture Priority, the camera can do it with any finder attached. However, only the AE finder with that little rectangular light bar at the top will display the shutter speed the camera is selecting -you are correct when you say that the motor drive can be used to power the camera body. This requires using the NiCad battery pack, which has a power connection port on the front of the pack, which can then be used with Battery Cord C-FN to send power to the battery compartment of the camera body. A bit clunky, but it works. One wonders why they couldn't have put one more electrical pin connector on the base of the camera so the motor drive could send 6v to the body from either the Motor FN or the Winder FN. With that in mind, I think it's a good thing they didn't try to build in a TTL flash system into this camera - it would probably have another screw-in port cover, and an external cable to send data to the flash unit!

My parents bought a Nikon FG “black” body along with the later E Series 50mm prime lens in 1982 (~$325). I read the owner’s manual from cover to cover pretty much as soon as it came through the front door of the house. My mother used it for a photography course she took at the local community college that year. My father had always been the chief photographer in the family during the 70s (Polaroids and such, we had one of those with the bellows). Upon transitioning from Polaroid to 35mm (via Nikon … just as you noted that Paul Simon pronounces it), I seemed to become the official family photographer. My father would angrily demand his Nikon camera back from time to time, but it pretty much remained in my possession until I left home for college. After getting married and having children, I bought my own Nikon F3 along with another Seres E 50mm lens. I spent $600 to get a used one (new ones were still priced at over $1000 in the mid 90s). I have since begun collecting Nikon manual focus equipment. But, the FG and F3 and the Polaroid cameras that served to document our lives will always hold a special place in our hearts. I can remember my father taking Christmas and vacation photos and such from behind the controls of the Polaroid and Nikon FG. Papa don’t take my Kodachrome, papa don’t take my Kodachrome, papa don’t take my Kodachrome away …

On an X-700 it is all electric so the only thing you can do is change the batteries. For an XE, or XK or XD these cameras all have 2 mechanical shutter speeds so you turn the shutter speed knob to the marked X-sync and the shutter should fall back into place.

Congrats on hitting the 3,000 watch hour milestone! That's a great accomplishment in one year! When it comes to YT monetization, there are actually 2 different tiers on the way to full monetization of a channel. The first tier requires 500 subs and 3,000 watch hours. This unlocks Membership, Supers & Shopping features on your channel. The second tier requires 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hours which then enables you to earn money from ads on your videos. Since you reached the first milestone, those requirements are no longer displayed to you and now YT only displays the tracking info for the second milestone (1k subs/4k hours). So keep on going!

And with the dedicated SB16A flashgun you can apparently take shots at the MD4's 4.5 frames a second and all the frames will still be properly flash exposed. Although I haven't actually tried it yet.

Just Great, my name is Walter and I will be 65 in Oct. I have a Nikon Shooter since my grandpa gave me my first Nikon back in 1978 , it was a Nikon FM and I used this camera through all my University and more into the mid 90's. It was such a JOY.... But in the late 90's I did jump into Digital Photography with Nikon too.... Today I do have my Nikon D500, also my Nikon D750 and recently I purchased my first mirrorless Nikon Z50.... Today I am feeling a little nostalgic and thanks to your review of the FG, I'm going to get me one, I still have my old Nikkor's AI lenses from the 80's that still works and take great pictures. My Grandpa had a Nikon F and also a Leica M1.... Nikon is been in my family since the 50's... Well, I think that the FG, based on your review, will be a decent acquisition for me to ease my nostalgia!!!!

Motor drives are a MUST!
@davidgrandy4681
@davidgrandy4681 2 месяца назад
Back in the day (circa 1976) the very first camera I ever saw with a motor drive was a Topcon SuperDM. The F had one but I hadn't seen one until much later. Although some motodrives would rewind the film in truth the winder was just a slow motordrive, no more and no less. A friend bought a used Canon "winder" for his original F1 and it was 1.5 to 2 frames a second: i.e a dog. I had the same Nikon F2 camera with the MD-3 motor drive you've shown, and with alkaline batteries I'd be lucky to get three frames a second. The F3's motor MD-3 without the Nikon ni-cad pack was about the same. What the motor/winder REALLY gave me was the ability to keep my eye to the viewfinder. I didn't have to move the camera away from my eye, wind the film, find the viewfinder again, refocus my eye and then be ready to shoot. I'd miss shots, it was as simple as that. Now I didn't. A photographer was asked once if a motor drive actually improved his photography and he said (and I think that this answer applies to EVERY advance in photography), "Well it means that I have a bad day less often."
