Chances are greater that the water was coming through the six open holes in the side of the hat than through the stitched seam under the band.

damn, thats for this review! The whole point I want this hat for was for its waterproof features

The hat is not designed to be worn rafting a river in a heavy down pour. Get a Shelta hat for that. This hat was designed for rugged land based work and moderate rains. In a heavy down pour, anything will let you get wet.
