The ME 262 swept wing was not about aerodynamic efficiency. The original design was straight winged but the center of gravity created a serious stability problem which Willi Messerschmitt corrected by sweeping the wing.
Falklands were British before argentina existed. The Falkland islanders cannot stand the argies and will always remain British. Despite what the salty argie 10 year old little girls say in the comments the Falklands will always be British and nothing will be done about it or they will be smashed harder then last time. Buy all the jets you want you'll never win. Cope harder keyboard warriors. FALKLANDS FOREVER BRITISH RULE BRITANNIA 🇬🇧🇬🇧
First of all, Crimea was the only autonomous oblast of Ukraine. From 2014(since its annexation to Russia) until 2022(when the full invasion started) Ukraine didn't shoot a single a bullet in Crimea. Probably, if it was just Crimea, we wouldn't had any war at all between Russia and Ukraine.
The part where P47 pilots could see the 109s waiting for the bombers, but had to turn around, is chilling - but makes me wonder - couldn't they have put drop-tanks on Spitfires and P47s?? The range may still lack what the P51s had but it surely would have saved a lot of allied lives / brought some ground targets into range. Were drop tanks not available yet?
As a young man, for work I spent a day with Paddy Lilbourne who was the ex squadron leader of one of the first Meteor squadrons. I imagined that the first jets were ferocious beasts. Well he set me right. The Meteor to him was smooth a silk, beutiful to fly, not instant accelleration but a build up.. What killed ME262 was a major engine rebuild after 4 hours flying. I have never seen equivalent figures for the Meteoir. Does anyone know?
6:39 "it was a superb aircraft...heavily armed...nothing could get near it"....shows an Me262 getting shot down by a Spitfire, Mustang or Tempest. You know, the kind of aircraft that "couldn't get near it"
The invention of the jet engine goes to Hans von Chain of Germany, though the credit went to Great Britains Frank Whittle, who registered a patent for the turbo jet in 1930. the first flight test was not until 1941. Frank Whittle struggled for finance, none forthcoming from the British Government. Whittles first prototype was in 1937.
Whittle bench tested his engine 3 months before Von Ohain. Additionally, and critically, Von Ohain had copies of Whittle's patents to which they constantly referred. Von Ohain was a pioneer in the development of jets but he certainly wasn't the inventor.
The Spitfire Vs were outclassed for quite a while by the Fw190s. It was a slightly tricky situation. The Hurricane was obsolete. The Spitfire was outclassed. The Typhoon wasn't ready.
You forgot to mention Germany was still fighting on 2 fronts when they invaded comm*es. And look at Usa, and Uk now, filled with people of old age and non-americans and non-britons.
This Marine would like to thank the tornado pilots for their quick and decisive action. I was the one on the berm when you came over with full afterburners going
My Friend's father was one of the soldiers of the USSR and he said that the Nazi killed around 9 Million soldiers it was brutal his father was also cold due to winter and he claimed that he couldn't see that much and one of the Armoured fighting vehicles on the Nazi side shot both of his legs and now he has no legs 😢 I feel bad
Arabs wanted the Jews out and the entire territory. The Arabs in Palestine have and never will accept Israel. But the Egyptians, and as of The end of Sept 2023, Saudi Arabia was going to accept Israel. That is why Hamas attacked Israel in such a brutal way.
12:11 Ironically fewer people killed in the Comet crashes caused by then unknown metal fatigue than the 737 max crashes some 70 years later caused inadequate testing.
I didnt listen But pretty sure what will be in the video Just wanted to share something Just today i watched about history of Cyprus Its close to israel And i have noticed some similarities 1) greek and turkish. In cyprus Jews and arab in israel 2) christian greek cyprisian against muslim turksish cyprisian Israel muslim arabs - israel jew israeli 3) way Cyprus got subernity from british mandate Way Israel got suvernity from british mandate 4) the most interesting How British left Seperating land into non sustainable borders In cyprus the seperation was On governing factor Tear drops of hostile populations Whith unsolvable governing system Where muslim turks are woting for turks and christian turks are voting for Greeks Muslims have their army and police Christian have theirs In israel Land separation Two territories that kiss And no border line is possible The populations are hostel Ideologicaly incompatible Territory has tear drops of each other in each other territory Each has its own view of governing system That dont corelste 5) outside conflict Turks want the land to be turkish Greeks want the land to be greek Both heat up the conflict While both are danger to the other population If land becomes greek - turks will be persecuted Same the other way around In israel Arab countries want the land without jews Jews are fugitives that have no were to go (Ethnicly cleansed fron all around the world and genocide heavily ) Both populations are in fear If israel becomes part of arab world Jews will be persecuted If not Than jews will have to do what needs to be done to prevent conquest of israel And that means that local arabs are in danger And also fear the victory of the other side (Israel had no support then ) Very interesting That on both situations Brits left a long ticking bomb Of conflicts That are unsolvable
0:20 Keep in mind that the first jetplane ever flying was the German Heinkel He 178. Secondly, the ME 262, when it was first in service, flew almost 200 km/h faster than the Meteor.
I believe centimeter radar installed into the B24 was the big game changer, ,in the battle of the Atlantic against U boats, as it could detect a sub's periscope, where older long wave radar could not.
Interestingly The few Meteors deployed to fly in the European Theatre had to be painted all white… Because the greatest threat to them wasn’t the 262… it was allied fighters and anti aircraft guns…
So Crimea held a referendum to join Russia but the EU considered it illegitimate. Palestine held an election to elect Hamas, the US considers it illegitimate & performs severe sanction on Gaza. 🤔🤔🤔. It just shows that the west doesn't believe in democracy.
It's a great pity that the Imperial puts its name to such a distorted and tecnically inaccurate 'documentary' as this. Full of errors and misinformation.
16:30 America had vast industrial output. We don't have that now. The production is now in one country in Asia. We had a hard time replacing the 250,000 howitzer shells we sent to Ukraine.
I'm down voting just for the 'advanced swept wing'. Utter rubbish. The 262 was a taildragger when designed, when the changed it to tricycle it screwed up the centre of gravity. The only way to adjust that was to sweep the wings back. The 262 was junk.
1:36 More energy efficient? I'm dubious (especially for the early engines). 6:06 *From the beginning,* the Me-262 was thought of as a dual-role plane. Blaming Hitler was done after the fact.
How does a channel dedicated to military history make such mistakes? A channel with access as to primary sources no less! Swept wings for speed, and Hitlers "meddling" are completely fictional tales spread by History Channell and its ilk.
I believe the sweeping of the wings on the 262 had more to do with the fact that the engines it used turned out to be heavier than promised and they had to sweep the wings to correct the resulting centre of gravity problem.
@@mrjockt Exactly. And the fighter-bomber conversion was already a standing order for all future fighters, not something Hitler later decided to force.
I would say the USA won. Jet fighters in WW2 didn't matter for the outcome of the war. Of course, Brits being Brits they need to prop up themselves and make themselves very important.
You can say that… but until the 60s most US jet fighter and engine development was based on stuff freely given over to the US by the Brits… and the rocket development stood on the shoulders of the Germans…
The US didn't even think that jet aircraft were practical until Hap Arnold visited Whittle's Power Jets company in 1941 and was flabbergasted to see an actual flying jet. The British supplied the US with the designs and examples so that they could collaborate. Read some f*cking history, the British were enormously important for a variety of reasons, including providing the founding principals for the US constitutional system.
Bit unfair to say that the Mustang had a bigger bullet than the British 303 because Spitfires etc had 20mm cannon by the time the P-51 arrived. The 50 cal is still a powerful weapon though, and 6 of them put a lot of lead in the air, or ground, if you're strafing
one may take the position that the concepts realized in the ME262 were more advanced- swept wings offered more speed and the use of axial compressors are still with us, being the more modern design. However, the Meteor with it's radial compressor engine seems to have been more reliable. I guess we may thank RAF bomber command in no small measure that the germans had problems to procure the materials they really needed to make the Jumo engine reliable and preventing them to make more 262s then they did.
@@JBils41Even the RAAF acknowledged that the Meteor was no match for the MiG-15 at anything other than low altitude, although the Meteor accounted for 5 MiG kills and 4 Meteors were lost in air-to-air combat, which is why they restricted the Meteor to the ground attack role.
The mentioning of "Hitler Youth" made me think of the famous Goebbels speech about Germany going to "Total War". It is such a strange concept to try to wage a "limited war". And it has been tried. But the other guy probably isn't. For a people so bright, they sure followed the German propaganda in earnest like puppets. Or was there even a choice?
The Gloster Meteor entered squadron service on 17/7/1944 not April 1944 with the first operation with 616Squadron taking place on 27/7/1944 by which time the Me.262 had already damaged a Mosquito PR.XVI.
