Dead Tenors' Society is dedicated to the great tenors of the past. The familiar and not so familiar voices of a bygone era are showcased in rare recordings that will probably not be found elsewhere. If you are a fan of Caruso, Gigli, Björling, Martinelli, Tucker, Tagliavini, del Monaco, Dalmorès, McCormack and Melchior...or Carron, Giannini, Bloch, del Papa, Klementiev, Naval, Izquierdo, Hensel, LoMonaco and Mařák, then you'll enjoy Dead Tenors' Society.
It’s transposed down to B-major, so no high-Cs…but a thrilling performance. Poor balance because recorded from audience, maybe a better version exists (was it broadcast, I wonder?)
I think if an unknown older man walked in today for an entrance test in a music school or choir and sang like this, a whole rain of critical remarks would follow?? I know that little world. Perhaps they would say he would have to start from zero again. Myself I am impressed with those open, effortless, natural high notes. I can only do them on my best days, half open, sounding still covered.
I’ve been searching for “old guard” tenors singing this aria, this has got to be one of the best I’ve ever heard. Just wish the orchestra didn’t stop at the climax lol, nevertheless, his gorgeous, buttery, velvet voice makes up for it No one living can sing like this these days, my goodness. Only 1.4K views….

@@manueldelaflor1389 RU-vid no longer allows me to monetize the videos, so I am reaching out via Patreon in order to keep the channel going. If viewers wish to become sponsors, that's great. If they don't, that's fine too. I just want to educate and entertain those who appreciate the tenors of the past. Perhaps I will offer premiums at some point in the future.

Bergonzi was a REALLY Fine Tenor!!! Fine musician as well , always doing his best to stay true to the scores of the great composers music he was singing. That is one of the definitions of Artistry, as a singer! This rendition is really fine and smooth and does honor to the beautiful music Puccini wrote! Enough said!
