The National Visionary Leadership Project (NVLP) is the premier resource for oral history interviews with African American elders who shaped the 20th century.
Co-founded in 2001 as a nonprofit educational organization by educator and philanthropist Camille O. Cosby, Ed.D. and Emmy award-winning journalist Renee Poussaint,
NVLP has conducted videotaped interviews with more than 250 pioneers and acclaimed leaders.
Some of these elders are nationally recognized and interviewed by NVLP's co-founders and board members, such as Maya Angelou, Shirley Chisholm, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, John Hope Franklin, Dorothy Height, Quincy Jones, and Coretta Scott King. Others, known primarily in their local communities, are selected and interviewed by NVLP college Fellows. All of this invaluable primary source material is accessible worldwide on NVLPs website www.visionaryproject.org and archived at the Library of Congress.
<3 I Shall Not Be Moved <3 Psalm 125 ¶ 125:1 They That Trust In YHWH Shall Be As Mount Zion, Which Cannot Be Removed, But Abideth Forever. ¶ 125:2 As The Mountains Are Round About Jerusalem, So YHWH IS Round About His People From Henceforth Even Forever. ¶ 125:3 For The Rod of The Wicked Shall Not Rest Upon The Lot of The Righteous; Lest The Righteous Put Forth Their Hands Unto Iniquity. ¶ 125:4 Do Good, YHWH, Unto Those That Be Good, And To Them That Are Upright In Their Hearts. ¶ 125:5 As For Such As Turn Aside Unto Their Crooked Ways, YHWH Shall Lead Them Forth With The Workers of Iniquity: But Peace Shall Be Upon Israel. Psalm 19 ¶ 19:6 His Going Forth Is From The End of The Heaven, And His Circuit Unto The Ends of It: And There Is Nothing Hid From The Heat Thereof. ¶ 19:7 The Law of YHWH Is Perfect, Converting The Soul: The Testimony of YHWH Is Sure, Making Wise The Simple. ¶ 19:8 The Statutes of YHWH Are Right, Rejoicing The Heart: The Commandment of YHWH Is Pure, Enlightening The Eyes. ¶ 19:9 The Fear of YHWH Is Clean, Enduring Fi Forever: The Judgments of YHWH Are True And Righteous Altogether. ¶ 19:10 More To Be Desired Are They Than a Gold, Yea, Than Much Fine Gold: Sweeter Also Than Honey And The Honeycomb. ¶ 19:11 Moreover By Them Is Thy Servant Warned: And In Keeping of Them There Is Great Reward. ¶ 19:12 Who Can Understand His Errors? Cleanse Thou Me From Secret Faults. ¶ 19:13 Keep Back Thy Servant Also From Presumptuous Sins; Let Them Not Have Dominion Over Me: Then Shall I Be Upright, And I Shall Be Innocent From The Great Transgression. ¶ 19:14 Let The Words of My Mouth, And The Meditation of My Heart, Be Acceptable In Thy Sight, YHWH, My Strength, And My Redeemer. Cobb's family were not poor by most standards now and then . They always run this aspect of Cobb , over and over . 2 sides to a coin and who can be totally sure about all of this . A fierce competitor played against other races ,all about the money . Built a hospital and other notable charities . Heard alot of ballplayers say different things when it came to Tyrus . Cobb and Hogan among others went thru hell father-wise . Buck O'Neil class act , helped Ernie Banks and many others in and out of baseball .RIP p.s. Honus Wagner is largely forgotten .
This is how the US is a "tyranny". It's not a Mussolini type at the head of the Gov; it's a shadowy creature retracting your life piece by piece, all who are not a cog in the system - "in the continuity of it", that is, who is free.
Ty Cobb got a bad rap because of a drunk rag writer. Ty's father was an abolitionist. Ty was a generous contributor to the negroe leagues. He was far from being a racist. And he was the BEST to ever play the game.
there are a number of people that Ive seen in concert in my life...some of the greatest singers we've ever heard of. I'll spare the names, because what Im most proud of, is that I got to see Nina Simone at Constitution Hall in my hometown, Wash/DC, a few yrs before she died...the legendary, latin icon Mrs Celia Cruz at an outside festival in my hometown, DC, in 2000...and the late, diva of all divas, Eartha Kitt in a Broadway production that she performed in, when she replaced Chita Rivera, in 2003...it was called "Nine". And to see her make her entrance on a stage that was flooded with water and smoke (intentionally, done for affect), was like seeing the face of God. I will never forget it. And everytime I brag about having seen her, LIVE..the people that I tell, are always blown away. That is the legacy of Eartha Kitt. There was NO ONE like her.
What an absolutely wonderful book, full of so many layers and so political as she says all good art is. I just finished it for the first time, after owning it for many years and I can’t believe it took me this long to pick it up.
Ms. Evelyn Cunningham clearly had very strong and positive figures in her upbringing that made her into the fearless, intelligent and outspoken woman that she was in her life. She’s such an inspiration
I just adored her. There is no Kamala Harris, but for Barbara Jordan, Sheila Jackson-Lee and Mrs Chisholm. She is BLACK ROYALTY...and everytime I see footage of her, all I get from her, is deep wisdom, warmth, love, dignity and supreme intergrity.
An incredible sentiment that reminds us all what humanity can look like at its absolute best. Here is the way to end racism forever -- with a generosity of spirit that is unmatched and love that never discriminates, a desire to understand rather than condemn.
Here he is, my very first hero...I decorated my white ol'- timey Converse sneakers with his number 6, his last name and shamrocks...oh yes a legit honest to goodness hero...
