As a programmer I appreciated this discussion. I've worked with Magento and I think the call to steer away from it was wise due to the hidden costs of keeping a front end ui fresh. Magento was so limiting and had to jump thru hoops to make something happen. The Magento contractors love it I think because the implementation takes so much time and money.
