As a practitioner of tibetan buddhism under guidance of tibetan vajrayana master, i would say he is pointing to a very fundamental aspect of recitation, but the view is somewhat simplified. Recitation or chanting of texts or mantras is more nuanced, and it may also include elements where you request for something. For example, request for guidance and blessings from gurus and deities. But I love Alan Watts's talks. He has been and is an important teacher for me.
Alan actually charged for most of his live lectures, all his books, and his audio/video recordings. He never identified as a guru, rather he claimed to be an entertainer. His son, Mark, travelled with him for many years, recording his talks, editing and packaging them for distribution. Together they set up the Electronic University, now the Alan Watts Org, and Mark continues Alan’s efforts to be a custodian to the integrity of his father’s voice, helping to spread Alan’s potent, yet lighthearted, message for the world to enjoy. However, all of this energy input by Mark continues to require resources… so we are still offering Alan’s work in fresh formats to the public - in exchange for their support. We hope you’ll find value, or at least understanding, in this response, and in the restored and remastered audio we’ve been working diligently to provide.
This man is a gift to humanity. He is so needed. I often find myself crying while listening to his lectures. Every thing he says is so deep yet so beautiful. Wish I could have met him. ♥️

did someone convert this to digital from a noisy cassette tape inside a primitive consumer all in one stereo system? I can hear a radio broadcast and U2 in the background...then someone starting and stopping a tape. A tape of a tape recorded with a microphone? Ah the journeys Watts stories must have went thru...
Now I probably got this wrong but sorry not sorry. When he said, "...from what it is now into some other state you think it ought to be in...", I had a baby epiphany. I closed my eyes, calmed my mind and sought the state of mind of me doing a task I had been putting off. It wasn't hard and the task is done. Maybe a little mild visualization helped set the tone so to speak.

Just live in the present moment. Feel. Be aware and feel it. It will bring more peace than living in the past or future when we are right here right now
GOD I wish he was here today. Sometimes when I listen to him which I do nearly daily for a decade, I feel like my family finally cares to speak with on matters that matter. He is part of my persona now like my own uncle.

Not quite certain of what which law of given testimony was there laws of laws laws above laws laws of order laws of time laws of Carmel ways laws of war laws of righteousness laws of wickedness laws of man laws of life laws of death laws of God laws what laws when there is blindness there is loss for everything there is a time and a place for everything under heaven... The laws be yet be spoken are and have many times been broken the incomplete nature is when we cannot see our judgement against or for others when we cannot see past our own noses sometimes it is to question than fathom as be it is to fathom before asking... When we surpassed our own understanding and cannot see behind below or even beyond the ways we've not chosen the changing of our own minds and ways.... Law is of the land ... Do to our weight upon this earth as living flesh if such be no laws we would not exist we would be nothing we would be without a reason.. though it is only a word to call an order of things law is what is to be in respect and honor understanding acceptances of what must protect guide inform design our destiny of our experience existing under not just govern but to hold the reasoning of continuing safely and with some many descriptive ideals of project subject object laws and rules regulations protocol system of things have such laws of gravity or laws of living reasoning methods or even brotherhood or ways of love or even laws forgiving and dinning to prevent prevention of despair as well as our laws of nature nurture innate ability to measure moon distance or calander years months eons ages There are many laws to abide in the world of man there are many concepts of peace of God we are given the understanding to call these things as to accept the ways things are designed to discribe our ability to accept correction and observations of acknowledgement to the righteousness we are all entitled to accept refuse deny choose and ponder act upon or not to act upon it is in the sake of our basic survival to exist together in equal understanding of righteousness or wickedness or right or wrong it is our abled intelligence that informs us the when the where the who the what the want the near the far the how to we are challenged everyday to this our judgement must be judgement of ourselves and the measure of laws is merely an understanding to keep us ... The human race.. Aware protected safe and acknowledgement of what we are to do to keep an order that supports our divine providence of together though of self... I hope I have shared with you an enlightened thought I don't necessarily state as fact as finding to be absolut there are many others thoughts and opinions same similar or not we all have a judgement feel free to decide if you're interested to challenge yourself and believe become who you are by the understanding of law that you provide for your order to perform the sovereign ways to measure possibilities beyond I may write as philosophy or theory opinionated or otherwise I do believe if I didn't believe in laws I would not have the ability to adjust my judgement of current time that I may be law record for purposes...
