Nice one Kris! I think your honourable mentions would make up my top 6, more than your picks honestly haha! I think the only one for me would be Alice In Chains, shows our division in Metal I guess. For me, Cannibal Corpse, Pantera, Sabbath, Obituary and Megadeth would make my top 6, Bolt Thrower would just miss out. My glaring omission would be Testament, it's alright but my least favourite of theirs. They tried to do what Metallica and Megadeth did, but not to the same effect. Great vid mate 😁🤘🏻

Nice picks. It was really cool to see 'Manic Frustration'. Excellent album. I'm more of a 'The Real Thing' guy, but I remember a lot of people really loved 'Angel Dust' back when it came out. And I think it has only become even more appreciated with time. I love the Baphomet cover... it's got a bit of a DIY feel to it. I quite like Biohazard and a bunch of other NYHC bands, but - yeah - that NYHC masculinity thing is a bit hard to relate to to someone who grew up in the working class suburbs of Odense, Denmark. 'Beyond the Crimson Horizon' would probably be somewhere in my Top 6 along with 'The End Complete' and 'Vulgar Display...' and maybe also 'Countdown to Extinction'. Best Dave Mustaine impression ever :D
Another great year for metal I saw faith no more support soundgarden and guns and roses at the old Wembley Stadium that year. Got a couple of 7 inches from that album if you want them send me a message pal. That trouble album is their best for me easily. Great video treacle 😉🤘🏻sold me og blaze in the northern sky to Johnny Mac and yeah Panteras greatest hour saw them at the marquee club for that tour kerbdog supported! 😛
Yeah, what a fantastic year that was. Great picks (honorable mentions included). Love 'Necroticism', which is hands down my favorite Carcass album. 'Human' is an awesome album IMO. I love the guitar tone. Sean Reinert was an amazing drummer. I saw Cynic live in the early 2010s, and they did tbe same thing with the drum kit. Cathedral were so extremely slow compared to other bands at the time. I had never heard band as slow as them and Winter. I was in a thrash metal band back in the 90s whose vocalist was a massive COC fan. There are some pretty good deep cuts on the black album... I was very disappointed with it when it came out but at the same time I really, really liked it. I'm still ambivalent about it today.
Another quality list, but again you're just wrong with some of the albums you left out! 😜😂 Arise is Sepultura's 2nd best for me, after Beneath The Remains, and it would quite simply DEMAND to be number one! From Beyond is a lot better than you're making it out to be, but I'm not sure it'd make my Top 6 either, tbh. I'm sure you'll be unsurprised to learn that I'd try hard to get The Black Album in there, too, though I don't know if I'd manage it. As if you forgot Blessed Are The Sick, even after mentioning it earlier in the video. Plonker! 😜 Cheers! 🤘
So many great albums from this year. I do like " Cathedral " , i have " Carnival Bizarre" - top band. Nice pick with " Carcass " and of course the black album. I have heard only good things about " Skyclad ". Cheers Kris🍻🤘
Awesome picks from 91' Kris! Some fantastic Death Metal albums that year, a lot of the I'm still yet to check out. I think a lot of your honourable mentions would make my top 6, love that Carcass album though! Human by Death is pretty cool, but I never got on with it as much as other albums in their discography. Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura and probably that Entombed would make my top 6. Though I understand why you put Massacre as your glaring omission, I do enjoy it. Great year and a hard one to set a list to with so many great albums. This was the year I got into the heavier side. Arise would probably be my No1 but that's partly because I got it for xmas with a new stereo at the time and Dad sat with me xmas morning listening to it, happy memories. I remember seeing Carcass on the Heartwork tour a few years later at the mill in Preston with Chris and Rossi. Rossi drove us down in his old fiesta with a brick for a handbrake 😂 Still have my ticket signed by Jeff who was having a beer at the bar pre gig. Hope to catch up at Damnation if your there this year 🤘

Eh up our kid! Wonderful list here Kris mate 1991 was the year I went full on death metal and binned off thrash. Excellent list 91 what a year for death metal! Ahh the good old days . Dismember would of been higher up but then I’m slightly biased right 😛🤣
I was at that Death gig at Manchester International 2 with Carcass! 🤯 fantastic gig! I was in the pit and crowd surfing ..Great memories. Glad I got to see the late great Chuck play live..Thanks for the shout out Kris good to see you hopefully see you at Damnation festival 😁🤘

I've gone back to dismembers back catalogue recently .. I dropped off after massive killing tbh .. pleasantly surprised how great they are from death metal to the self titled .. revisiting grave too now..

Excellent list! I did college radio in 1990 and spun ALL of these records, so I have those great memories, too. It also reminds me that I need to revisit that Trouble record. Also, I'm appropriating the phrase "dripping in Morrisound." Good stuff.
Awesome list for 1990 Kris! A lot of your top 6 would have been mine too, especially Slayer, Obituary and Death. Megadeth would have made it for me, and Testament Souls of black. Anthrax, Deicide, Kreator and Iron Maiden would have been close to my list too. Totally understand why the Pantera was your glaring omission, but I do absolutely love the album! My glaring omission would have been Painkiller, because I've never been into Priest I just don't like them much. I filmed my video for your comp earlier on today! 😊🤘🏻🤘🏻

Well, I was going to say what a great video for 1990 and some stellar albums on show, but seeing as you didn't mention me at the end, I won't 😂 It's these kind of lists that remind you of just how rich the metal scene was at the time. I look forward to 1991 🤘
Oh yeah, 'Handle With Care' is one of my favorite albums... I even like "Funky Noise". 'The American Way' is another favorite of mine... and, yes, I even like "31 Flavors" :D I didn't like 'Seasons in the Abyss' back when it came out. The songs were to slow for me. Now, of course, I love it. I love 'Cause of Death' too, but my favorite Obitiary album is 'The End Complete'. I also have to admit that I like how samey their albums are. I saw Danzig live some, what, 10 or 15 years ago. His voice did sound a bit strange, but he put on a pretty good show. Since I'm a poser weirdo, 'Vanity/Nemesis' is one of my favorite albums and probably my favorite Frost album :D Good video!
Haha 🤣 Some valid reasons there mate for sure. At least funky noise is only a minute long or something 🤣 And as for Vanity/Nemesis… there’s 1 or 2 decent track on it, but I’ll always be a Morbid/Megatherion/Monotheist man 👍🤣
@@greensabre Oh, yeah, 'Monotheist' is a masterpiece. TBH, I like all Celtic Frost albums... even 'Cold Lake'. Regarding "Funky Noise" and "31 Flavors", I've always liked funk rock and I dug a lot of funk metal back then (I still like 90s funk metal), so that's probably why I didn't mind when thrash bands went funky in the 90s. I have a soft spot for popping and slapping bass stuff, I think :D
Yeah, I did like a few of the funkier moments, such as Mordred & Mindfunk. However, I found myself getting tired of loads of straight thrash bands getting in on it. Thankfully Slayer never did… 🤣

Maybe to honourable mentions I would add: Exhorder-Slaughter In The Vatican Artillery-By Inheritance Prong-Beg To Differ King Diamond-The Eye But my nr1 for the 1990 list would definitely be BATHORY-HAMMERHEART Cheers buddy, already looking forward to 1991. Aha, you can´t get into Overkill. Ok, I´ll pull my sub back, hahaha... just kidding. I saw Sepultura opening for Sodom, the place was packed and before Sodom started their show half of the crowd left. Not my fave Sepultura but still one hell of an album. I had "The Real Thing" on last Friday because my lady really loves it, I would have rather pulled "Severed Survival" or "Consuming Impulse", hahaha...
Great vid, Kris! 1989 was a pretty ridiculous year for Metal! Nuclear Assault's 'Handle With Care' is a glaring omission here, but 'Streetcleaner,' and indeed all Godflesh, can get in the bin! 😜 Can't argue with any of your picks, but I WILL argue that 'Beneath the Reamins' is one of the finest albums ever recorded, and should be number 1. The bands playing in Bradford with you are priapism( who I have no knowledge of) and a horse called war who a a hugely underrated savage sludge metal band who have been around a fair few years. Think mistress and iron monkey vibes but somehow seem heavier. To have them opening a gig is a interesting/ unusual booking as they are amazingly savage live. Played with them and swamp coffin a couple of weeks back. As for the main topics of the video what's a perfect list 89 was a death metal banger of a year wasn't it.

All great albums, Kris. Mine would be majorly different, and Kreator would defo be nr 1. Overkill, Sepultura, Exodus, Testament, and Obituary would follow to complete top 6. However as you said, 89 was a hell of a year for metal releases. Looking forward to the year 90 now.

As much as I like Carcass I don't think Symphonies would make my top 6, Morbid Angel might be there for me, it's a great album! From the honourable mentions Kreator, Obituary, Bolt Thrower and Exodus would be in my top 6 I think. Testament and Overkill are good albums but would also miss out for me, actually I think Practice would be my glaring omission. Admittedly, 'The Real Thing' is my favorite FNM album, and I do have a soft spot for "Falling to Pieces" :D 'Fabulous...' is my favorite Exodus album too (along with 'Impact...'). Mate I was planning on doing a video but I’ve lost all interest. So here’s a written response. First two albums that shaped my metal journey. Killers. And deep purple machine head. That’s where it all started. Clandestine entombed better for me than left hand path. And indecent and obscene, better than like an everflowing stream. Albums I couldn’t get into and still can’t. Soundgarden, superunkown. And the black album Metalicca just don’t get either of them. Last question. Th price and shipping cost just ridiculous now. And limited presses on limited numbers. I’d tour skint like me all the time they sell out within an hour or 2! Love ya mate and well done brother 😉🤘🏻
Want a new subscriber? Here you go... I just saw Metal Mickey´s entry video, so he sent me here. Great questions I´d have to think about. I´ll let you know if or when I do a video. I just did a little rant video about modern vinyl collecting. For the 170 varients of each album I did a research. Record companies ask the pressing plants if there´s a rest of vinyl colour pellets from other pressings left over. If so they can buy those cheaper and they may last for 100, 200, 300 records. They can use the same stamper anyway. I´m not defending this but that´s one of the reasons. Congrats to 200subs and welcome in my YT world, hahaha...

Congrats on the 200 mate. Totally agree with your bug bears, especially the downloads. I listen to most of my stuff on the walk to work so always get a digital copy as well, don't tend to pay for those though.... 😅

A2- IRON MAIDEN Killers, KREATOR Pleasure To Kill A3- DEATH Human, RUSH 2112 A4- 1st Money is never enough as well as space. 2nd aiming for a certain album but spot another album that you like but it's well below on your wishlist and spend the money on it instead of your initial target😅. Fleecing the consumer. The price of soul of a new machine reissue is a example of this. Picture disks is my other hatred of records. Sounds like absolute garbage and means on cool giant artwork booklet. Should have probably done a video and gone into great detail but hey ho.

Nice video Kris! I'm glad to hear you had such a great time on tour! Something I've always liked the idea of doing, but the closest I ever got was playing 4 or 5 different local pubs in the space of a week or so, after which I realised I wasn't cut out to be a Death Metal vocalist! 😂 The live footage sounds good, too.
