Very nice! I have a '72 T100R in blue/white. Doesn't look THAT nice, except from a distance. 😏 But, as you know, every alpha male melts when I drive by. I need to get after going through my '75 T160 (which I've had since new) soon. That thing took me through hell and back.

My first "big bike" (in 1974) was a 1969 BSA A65L Lightning. Only had it for 2 weeks before some low life nicked it from a locked garage under a tower block in Limehouse. Never saw it again.

Yeah, whisper quiet and running like a top. My old boss had one. It sounded like a cement mixer when he bought it, but two rebuilds later (don't ask) it sounded and ran like this one. The lightening and the Bonneville might have beaten these things on Sunday, but for the rest of the week, these single carb models were the ones to ride.

That's a very impressive restoration and the bike looks and sounds gorgeous...my first "big" bike was a 1970 Thunderbolt which I purchased early 1976..like a lot of old British thumpers the bikes were fine but sometimes let down by the Joe Lucas electrics!..kept mine for a few years and eventually traded it in for a 750 Bonnie..have had numerous bikes over the years but must admit to still having a "soft spot" for the old Thunderbolt....

A beautiful bike and a credit to the restorer. One thing i did notice is that the bike was started on it's side-stand and that is not a great idea. I have had lots of frames with the side stand lug snapped off with people starting them. All the weight of the bike and sometimes the rider is put on one point and it's not designed to deal with that and they are not over strong and the factory could have done a better job of attaching them. I am not criticizing anyone, just an observation. The bike looks very spot on and the restorer has done a great job of making the bike look factory new again. Cheers and all the best from England. U.K.

What about the swarf from the drilling/tapping. Where does that end up? Oh i see, Sorry did not watch it all first!
@rickconstant6106
@rickconstant6106 Год назад
I can't understand why anyone would choose to drill a hole in the end of a perfectly good rocker spindle to cure a leaky o-ring. I have owned my T140 for 30 years, and in that time I have needed to replace the rocker spindle o-rings twice. All you need to do is rotate the engine to a point where the rockers are slack, remove the oil feed unions, push or tap the spindle through far enough to be able to remove the old o-ring and clean up the exposed part of the spindle, then fit the guide tool (cost me about £5) and new o-ring, lubricate them and carefully tap the spindle back into place. What is so difficult about that?

Thank you for your comment. I'm sure there are many different ways to "skin a cat", however, after 40+ years of working on these bikes, I'm going to do it this way. Simple. Quick. And it works every time. That's what my customers like. I'm confident that your way probably works fine for your customers, too. Have a great day!

Alternatively, you can just replace the oil seal on the rocker spindle. 5min job, no drilling, no tapping, Cost, about 10p.
@britishcyclerepair4209
@britishcyclerepair4209 Год назад
I'm so glad that you mentioned that. Let me explain. I have repaired and restored enough motorcycles over the years to know that, yes you can replace the o-ring, but you have a 1 in 10 chance that it will solve the oil leak problem. All of the engines that I have rebuilt have new o-rings installed properly, and you can never tell whether or not it will leak until it is running, some leak, some don't. It's all due to poor design with sealing the rocker shaft in the first place. To properly change the o-ring, you need to completely remove the rocker box so that you can use the proper tool to re-insert the shaft without damaging the o-ring, which is a 3 hour job, minimum. These BCR Rocker caps will definitely solve the issue of any future leaking.
@GarySmythe
@GarySmythe Год назад
@@britishcyclerepair4209 There is a way to replace the rocker shaft o-ring without removing the rocker box. An experienced "Vintage" Triumph mechanic knows how to do it and the seal won't leak.
@pauljohnston1295
@pauljohnston1295 Год назад
You don't have to be a Vintage mechanic to replace a o-ring as stated above its a poor design..I replaced mine they started to leak 3 years later..British cycle repair has a alternative..looks good
