I grew up with Clay, we went to the same school. He would bring his guitar to school and the teachers would let him play in class. He use to sing Lionel Richie songs.
I used to go see Clay in Beaumont way back in the day. I was friends with his guitar player, Robbie Lee. Got to hang out with Clay a lot. He is a genuine good guy aside from a huge talent.
He sounded great, you can tell he's very irritated about the sound in the ear . Finally pulled it out. That's why he kept starting and stopping playing.
Love this song. Nobody does it justice, but Clay acknowledges that in his speech. And I like hearing him attempt it. He has a good voice. And he appreciates Whitley as much as I do.
Clay is one of my favorite solo country artists. With all my favorite artists I dedicate a joke in their honor . I'm a comedian/unsuccessful songwriter. Here's for Clay.
