You really got to get more views bra this channel is so underappreciated but no worries I will always get onto it when you release a video even if I am aint ready to watch the full vid yet. Bra could you do a superman series comic books on the first early ones or which ever one his or spidermans if you have them
Thanks! Do you want to see Byrne Superman or Spider-Man? Or some other particular creator or story point? I will dig around and see what I can find. Thanks, again!
@@srpyle had to think about it a little, I'm a Superman fan, so if you have a silver age Superman issue around to read it would be awesome, I've been reading Plastic Man too and it would be nice to see one of his tales here, maybe Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane or early silver age Green Lantern, some of his stories are really whacky, when he turns Kalmaku into a seagull or the first appearance of the Shark! If you could do any of these I'd be glad to watch it, though I'm new to the channel, I'll watch more stuff to see the characters you're interested in and give better suggestions, thanks for asking :)
Hey Scott, thanks for another great video. I especially enjoyed your acknowledging the letter of Conrad Felber (5'2 & proud of it). His concern about character heights was serious but also hilarious! Anyhow, thanks for a good laugh and I look forward to your next Who's Who video. -Chuck Smash (6'3 & humble about it).
I think they were dark and brooding to match Janson's incredible inks. Janson really puts his stamp on the art in this issue. I would be curious to see how Dark Horse reprinted this, as like with Conan, I think they recolored everything on slick paper. Have to track those down!
Hi Scott, it looks really good. The colors are still beautiful. Sometimes, some issues from Marvel of the 1970's give muddy colors today. Especially the John Byrne's run on Superman. I much prefer the recent HC edition.
Hey Scott. Back in the day, I read numerous John Byrne interviews, including this one. His views have definitely evolved throughout the long arc of his career. Looking back over the decades of his great comics, I try to forget all the opinionated, ego driven, behind the scenes stuff and just focus on his amazing artwork and stories.
Correction! Not published by Marvel! Also, Doombots appeared prior to Byrne, but Byrne was the first to use them for a kind of retconning. Thanks for watching!
Nice. Haven't heard the name Paris Cullins in a long time. Loved his Blue Devil. This came out when I was 10 and I would read the Who's Who (and OHOTMU) over and over.
Thanks for another great video, Scott..! I love your idea to cover the Hulk's battles with some of his most awesome foes..! In the future, I hope you can cover the Hulk's fantastic battles with Ben Grimm, aka the Thing..! Spotlighting those battles could result in a truly spectacular video. Also, I totally agree with your take on John Byrne's Doc Samson costume design update. It was nice but totally unnecessary because Doc already had absolutely one of the coolest costumes ever designed, period. Anyhow, thanks again for the great video.
Hey Scott..! Thanks for another great video. The entries illustrated by George Perez bring back so many great memories as I used to study them for what seemed like hours and hours of time. Also, you made a great point about Karl Kesel, as his inks can most definitely make anyone's art look better. Back in the'80s, Karl Kesel and Terry Austin were my two absolute favorite inkers in comics. Anyhow, thanks again for the video..!
Thanks for the fantastic video, Scott.,! Kirby's Eternals are totally awesome, with such great characters. It was so smart for Marvel to embrace and incorporate the Eternals and the Celestials into their universe's greater overall cosmic story. The much later forbidden love story between Kro and Thena was really interesting IMHO. Thanks again.
Chuck, thanks as always! When I was a kid, I would make up my own teams of what I considered under-used Marvel characters. Ransak, Karkas, and Kro made it onto a lot of those teams. I think I wrote them in my Trigonometry notebook! Wish I still had it!

These read-throughs bring back some great nostalgic memories. I didn't have the deluxe editions, but I did collect the original edition of the handbook. Great great stuff. I remember reading those handbooks literally dozens of times each.
Hey Scott, thanks for another awesome video..! That was such a cool issue. The new look Red Ghost and his Super Apes were quite formidable. I really enjoy the look of Severin's inks over Trimpe's pencils because the detail work is a bit reminiscent of Wally Wood's awesome line art, IMHO. Also, I remember being a kid and thinking how super weird Ironman looked with the nose on his mask. I'm so happy that look didn't last very long...lol. Anyhow, thanks again for spotlighting yet another cool comic.
I just checked my episode guide and I was wrong! I don't think I have done the whole issue, but I do show it off in Episode 69: Bespoke Uncovered collection. It's in there. But I will have to dedicate a whole show to it!
Hey Scott, this is just another comment to say, thanks again for this video. Seven days ago, I received the Marvel Value Stamps book, and I've had a really enjoyable week of studying the various stamps and exploring all the awesome letters pages. It's like traveling into the past and happily revisiting my favorite Marvel characters in possibly/arguably the greatest Marvel era. Anyhow, thanks again for putting a spotlight on the book and highlighting its author Roy Thomas because he created a book that i will enjoy for a long time to come..!
Hey Scott..! Thanks for another great video. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the fantastic art of Buscema and Janson! There's so many panels of simply beautiful artwork throughout this issue. I'm especially impressed by the horrific atmosphere and overwhelming sense of danger created by the sudden appearance of all the devil's spawn clawing their way up out of the sea and onto Kull's ship. Amazing how such incredible artwork still holds up four decades after it was originally created. Anyhow, thanks yet again for doing what you do, you're the BEST..!
Hey Scott! Thanks for the amazing video! The New Teen Titans #18 was such fantastic read with Marv Wolfman clearly at the top of his scripting/dialogue game. Of course the rest of the creative team absolutely knocked the ball out of the park in their respective roles. Listening to the crisp dialogue was an instant reminder of just why this book was a DC bestseller and why it easily held it own against anything Marvel was publishing at the time including the Uncanny X-Men. I purchased the issue brand new from a newsstand by sacrificing my bus fare to get home when I was 12 years old. Believe me, that two hour walk home seemed like nothing as I happily read the issue over and over and over yet again. Anyhow, thank you for helping me recall some fantastic childhood memories. Keep doing the awesome stuff you do, sir! Thanks again.
Hey Scott, here's a quick question. After the success of The New Teen Titans, did DC try to duplicate that success by publishing anything similar in creativity and coolness as the Titans..? I was thinking maybe The Omega Men or perhaps Batman and the Outsiders..?
Good choices. Thanks for including #126 , this story written by the great Roy Thomas , had everything that makes a story good. The 4 issue miniseries “Banner” by Richard Corbin , 2001 , is beyond great. If you haven’t read Marvel Fanfare #7 , 1982 its pretty incredible. Hulk vs. the Blob .
@@srpyle Yes sir , you know your artists. The way the Hulk beats the Blob in that fight is so satisfying. But then , the story is so good , you end up relating to the Blob’s story.
Hey Scott, thanks for the excellent video..! Like you, I also grew up loving the Marvel Value Stamps..! I'm so happy to see all that classic Marvel coolness collected in such a nice sized tome. Now I can hardly wait to get it. Thanks again for all you do..!
Hulk was my first ever Marvel charafter and my favourite back in 1977.Most of my top 10 Hulk are from the Sal buscema joe Staton run like 205 which was sad like you say.
Thanks for the great video, Scott..! Your videos are such a breath of fresh air when I get sick and tired of the flood of videos featuring politics and/or just awful human behavior in general. The issue featured in this video was fantastic. I love how it's really just standard Marvel quality for that time, but these days, I appreciate it so much more. I must agree with your observations about the awesome art. Buscema and Palmer were such a great pairing..! The open corner panel thing was very cool, but it had somehow slipped my notice until you pointed it out. Anyhow, thanks again for choosing such great comics to cover, and now I gotta catch up on watching them..! Keep them coming if you can..!😅
This is a great overview of this game and it was nice to hear some of your thinking behind the design process. At first, I was torn about the lack of PvP, but like you said, it will be incredibly easy to implement it if you want it, while still deemphasizing the most vocal, and often toxic, element (i.e. the competitive tournament folks) of our miniatures hobby.
