Are the settings also good for DJI 3?
@dirtchurchmtb
@dirtchurchmtb 13 дней назад
Mostly. I would say it’s a good starting point, and then experiment with EV comp. The OA3 has a smaller lens than the OA4, so it doesn’t take in as much in low light settings. Because of this the OA4 is always going to do better - but these settings are still a good place to start.

The biking in Cumberland is pretty good, but lets not get confused about what we're comparing here. Cumberland doesn't even compare to what Whistler has to offer, inside and outside of the bike park. Everyone who comes here thinks Whistler IS the bike park, and miss some of the best trails in the world that aren't in the park.
@dirtchurchmtb
@dirtchurchmtb 13 дней назад
True, true, true… maybe that’s why I posed the idea as a “question”…? But also maybe the people who would prefer a place like Cumby are looking to get away from the busyness and traffic of Whistler. But I think mostly I’d have to 100% agree with what you say about what Whistler has to offer outside the park - there’s a lot more going on than the lift served trails.

Most Canadian MTB trails try and kill the rider, they pull lines as close to trees as possible, run over root sections at angles, have slabs that have sheer drops with little to no markings, build elevated platforms everywhere usually with skinnies at the midpoint. Any trail rating is likely at least a full level below its actual rating. Many trails have spectrum of trail ratings on a single run with no way to bypass stuff above your level without serious hike a bike. Seems like the goal is always to make the nastiest trail possible with mistakes easily driving broken bones etc. For a lot of riders MTB is about exploring trails. In Canada that can get you seriously fd up.
@dirtchurchmtb
@dirtchurchmtb 17 дней назад
Everything you say is exactly why I love mountain biking! 😂 Seriously though - to each their own. I think the key is “know before you go” and ask the locals about the trails and systems you’re thinking about exploring. Vancouver Island has plenty of trails more geared toward exploring nature.

Sometimes. I find that even with what I say in this video I get rough footage on occasion with the chesty. If it’s a rough rock garden or big drop the chest footage probably won’t work.

The problem with the settings suggested: exposure is fixed, so if you go from a dark place to normal to bright, the exposure will be wrong in two of those places.
@dirtchurchmtb
@dirtchurchmtb 13 дней назад
That would be a problem - except the exposure is not fixed, these settings just “cap” the low end and don’t allow exposure to go to the extremes at the expense of image quality or sharpness. With these settings the exposure still changes from open field into dark forest - just not as much as they would if you left all the settings in auto. I think that trade off is worth it for stabilization - since a lot of the darker images can be corrected later with color grading.
@waddo
@waddo Месяц назад
The funny thing is, the original Osmo action has no problems in low light, at least nothing like the. And by low light we just mean in the woods!

I used to ride these trails often when I lived in McCloud and Mt. Shasta City. The dirt can get so soft like 4 inches of powder! Then, you have rocks inside that powder. Of course, all those loose sticks and branches. Not many people maintain the side trails. I think there was only a couple that people actually worked on regularly. Nice ride, bro!
@dirtchurchmtb

True story. There’s a lot of new sanctioned trail development happening there now, which will help keep trails running - but I think these old DH trails will fade out.

Which fps is recommended with this settings ? Going to try it tomorrow morning
@dirtchurchmtb
@dirtchurchmtb 22 дня назад
I use 30 fps, but you can use others without negating the benefits of these settings. I’ve heard 24 fps feels more “cinematic”. I’ve tried 60 fps, and I didn’t like the way it portrayed the movement, but I can see how it would be good for slow motion.

Thanks for this. I use my camera for motorcycle rides and haven’t been getting shakiness when on bumpy roads or hitting bumps on smooth roads. I’m hoping that upping the frame rate as you suggest will help. I was using 4K/30FPS and shutter speed of 1/60. I’ll up that to 200 and see what I get. I had all of this dialed in on my Hero 11 but the Osmo 3 is so much more convenient I really want to get this to work.

Thanks for this. I'm playing around with low light settings, on the OA 4. Although more for trail running (I do occasional MTB'ing) These are the settings I've been playing around with (albeit it for very dark \ night scenarios) Resolution: 4K/16:9 30 FPS Stabilization: Rocksteady (not RS+) Field of view (FOV): Wide or Ultrawide Pro Settings: On Exposure: Auto EV: +0.0 Shutter speed: 1/100 - 1/8000 ISO: range from 100 - 3200 White Balance: Auto (or 3500K for a neon look) Color: Normal (D-Log M for editing) Sharpness: -1 Noise Reduction: +1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resolution: 4k/16:9 30fps Stabilisation: RS (Rock Steady) Enable Pro Mode Exposure: ISO 100-3200 Shutter: 1/60 (double the frame rate) : recommend ND filter, otherwise shutter on auto WB (white Balance): 4000k Color: Normal 10bit FOV: Wide Sharpness: Default (change will disable low light image enhancement) Noise Reduction: Default (change will disable low light image enhancement) Audio: Channel - Stereo - Noise Reduction Standard Low light image enhancement - Enabled Will give your settings a go as well. Since the latest update with the normal colour profile now 10 bit, I wonder if F-Log M still better for low light?

My issue is the chest strap. I've got it as tight as the straps can go and still get bounce when I get into rocky areas. I've tried all sorts of settings, including RS+, which I don't like cause it eliminates Ultra Wide. Still get shaky footage and I feel like it's from the chest strap bouncing when things get crazy. Any suggestions on stabilizing at the mount?

Thanks for posting. I'm new to the action camera thing and bought the action 4. I run in normal color mode because I don't color grade. pretty much just put the videos together in sequence and post with minor editing. 4k30fps. in wide pov. shutter speed had been 1/400-1/8000 and iso at 100-1600 ev at 0.0. wb5500 because I always shoot around 11am to 2 pm. shaprness-1 nr at 0. All of my rides are in the woods kind of like on a MTB. Any idea if I bring the shutter to 1/200-1/8000 and iso 100-800 would be a better quality video if I'm not color grading. Ugh... I'm a total beginner at cameras and RU-vid but I am doing it! Just bought the DJI OA4 as I lost my GoPro Hero 10 on a trail. Love this camera so much more but I am struggling with settings and I have watched about every settings video on YT. I've just done some initial testing around my property and when I go into Pro mode, I'm getting a dark look indoors and a crazy over exposed look outdoors. When I tone that down and play with color in post (also a total beginner) it seems like a fair amount of extra work for not a huge difference in quality of colors. What were your settings in this video in the very beginning? Can I put this OA4 in 4K/60 or 4K/30 with RS on and all else on auto? I am worried about that jittery look you have here. Thanks in advance!

Well ridden. I remember riding these when they were new. There was a big tree you had to ride under while making a hairpin turn on PTF. It's long gone sadly. Those two drops had me sliding down on my butt! We rode it in the summer and there was 4-6 inches of dust in some sections. I love these old school trails. Cheers
