Hi, my name is Leena. I am from Finland and I live with my family on the sunny island of Rhodes in Greece. Welcome to my channel, where we get to know the island of Rhodes together, as well as authentic and traditional Greek life, its customs, foods, culture, religion and beliefs.
At the same time, you get to join our family's life and everyday adventures in Rhodes. Our small stone house is located in the countryside, where the production of electricity and hot water is completely dependent on our solar panels.
By subscribing to the channel, you support the creation of free videos and stay on the journey!

New subscriber. Good for you for being conservative. I love your channel. From USA. My DNA test showed I am part Greek, such a surprise! No wonder I love Greek Food!
Its a terribly bad idea to open doors by pulling them. We the greeks do it all wtong...the reason being ...the basic reason being earthquakes...powerful ones...its criminal...especially in schools etc... I think you are praising greece instead of warning them for doing things soo wrong. .... The last thing we really need in greece is bad ideas
@@linobenetti6578 you are so right about that, I didn't even think about it! In case of any emergency, the doors should open outside for people to get out. I actually thought Finland was an exception to the general practice. For sure my intention was never to praise dangerous ideas. I was simply explaining different ways between countries...
@@mylifeinrhodes We greeks bad learners blockheads... If you see smtg strikingly unorthodox ..dont blink an eye , denounce it .. That's how we can tell a friend from a foe P.s. we need way many more scandinavians here in greece Spread the good word pliz Greece is depopulating alarmingly
Everybody Greece is Hot Property!!!,,,Summer time is heaven on Earth!!!,,,Greece is better than Spain and Italy and Turkey!!!,,,But I Must Warn you if you dont have Money you won't make it in Greece for Long ;)
@@idajetcoku3816 yes it's possible and definitely on my to do list. But because the ground water is about 30 meters down, the cost is around 3000-4000€...
A good alternative to house heating, to avoid the smoke from the fireplace, is solar water heater with vacuum tube technology. Vacuum tubes are heating the water in higher temperatures than the classic solar WHs and they're usually preferred in colder climates that Greece. By adding a tank to store the hot water in, and installing the proper tubing, you may run one radiator in every room and two in the living-hall. Smokeless, free and all day-long 😁
I was interested to know about greece as my sister wanted to visit the country for vacation and she told me to do some research. I was in love with all you video contents. They seem so real, it feels so nice. The editing with the background music and all gives it a calming note. Plus your description of events and everything was also what I love from your videos. Thanks dear. Keep it up. Hope to see more😊🙌💪💪💪💗💓💜💜
A Greek friend told me that the mom will often make a mark on the cake so they can make sure that the child gets the slice with the coin. She also said that she had big fights with her brother about who got the coin.
I've been to Crete as a child, and all I remember is calimera, calicera, calinichta. I love your channel for teaching me how to be more polite next time I go to Greece. Thank you :)
@@SharonizedMakeUp when you Google you get different sites, but I don't know any specific ones, since I never needed them 🤷🏼♀️ I made a video about general information moving to Greece. That might be useful if you're planning to move here. To find a good apartment is a bit tricky... Good luck 🤞
I was late to watch your new video. It's very nice. Is it for sure that the soil has not mixed with too much construction debris from the nearby house? Crush the soil around the trees to a depth of about 20cm to be relatively soft, then drop dung in a radius of 30cm around the trees. You'll find dung near sheep pens or buy "κηπουρόχωμα"(kipourohoma) and products like this. Also, ask the local agriculturalist for details because he knows better about the soil quality and the conditions in the area.
Hiya we enjoy your videos of life in Rhodes its a great insight to the reality of life there. We have been to Rhodes many many times and we love it too. We would love to try a year or so if we could. We come back on the 11th October for 11 days maybe we might see you along the way. We are still trying to find things to discover. ❤
Lemon trees give fruit in alternate years, that's why you need two lemon trees. The oranges don't have enough water. Pomegranate can handle little water.
Beautiful video, beautiful house.Fruit trees like peach, apricot, lemon, orange do not need other plant to make fruits. The fact that some of them have no fruits yet is that maybe they need fertilizer or are new and maybe they need the right prune.Respect!
Great video. Another weed that I love is glistrides (γλιστρίδες). I would definitely recommend to try them with vinegar. They are everywhere during summer and they are tasty and refreshing.
This is so funny. I was a soldier in Rhodes for 18 years and i met there my now best friend. A girl from Finland. We started talking one day 10 years ago in a bar and we never stopped. We try to visit each other as much as we can and we now have families who are friends to each other. I hope my son can marry her daughter.
@@ErisstheGoddessofmanhwas summer time in Finland is beautiful 😍 I never did mind the cold and I love snow, but the time in the fall before the snow sets in the ground is so dark and depressing...
I should also add there are also some "false friends" between Greek and Finnish. Year ago I remember reading the Finnish word "puusti" which roughly translates as "slap on the ear" or "wooded". However in Greek it's the derogatory term for "gay". I admit I had a bit of a laugh when I encountered this word. 😁
The drying cabinet is an interesting concept. One question: Is the water falling throughout the whole area to the sink or is there a draining hole that lets the water fall directly into the sink's basin?
I share the obsession with the fiskars brand. I make leather bags as a hobby, which means cutting leather, thread, paper patterns etc, and sometimes nothing else works. My little workshop is full of tools with orange handles :)
Hi, if you carrying items with both of your hands and are not available to open handles, is more easy to go in. also if you want not to close complete the door it easier to push it. in Nord there are huge pressure storms/snow at homes, so it more safe the doors to push/open from inside.
