First off I appreciate your comment. That said, this is a 7 year old video (Before the TikTok Days)... RU-vid was always the place for long form content. This video is a thorough review of a product and explaining the "why, what and how". Additionally I put video chapters into this video from the beginning so you can quickly click on a section of the video to get the info that you're interested in quickly.

I think it more than coincidence, but everyone that has sent these antennas for testing, give great reviews ! But people that bought them with their own money, many are not happy with something at best is simply a compromise antenna ! And most work repeaters within the confines of their own City, where are the repeater does the heavy lifting ! And the made up gibberish used to discribe these, is hilarious ! " Tesla like " ? OMG ! PT BARNUM SAID IT BEST : THERE'S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE ! 😂🤣😂 THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMATEUR RADIO , STRIKES AGAIN ! IMHO ! 👍😉 And can get similar results with a rubber Duck !
@ScottyD
@ScottyD 2 месяца назад
I can assure you that if the antenna was subpar that would have been discussed in this video. This is not a jaded review just because the antenna was sent to me, this is unbiased and good, bad, or ugly were all on the table when I created this review video. Furthermore, I have been using this antenna as my only mobile tri-band antenna for a year and have had nothing but stellar success and performance with it. In fact in a recent QSO, I connected with a repeater nearly 70 miles away in less than perfect conditions. It has a solid consistent performance of reaching repeaters 50 miles away. I've even had simplex conversations 30 miles away with no issues. As far as Tesla Like being discussed in the video, it's directly from Compactenna, I didn't make it up as a "buzz word" in the video. Here is the patent. ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/9407001 Here's where you can see the reference to tesla. compactenna.com/technology/
@sleeve8651
@sleeve8651 2 месяца назад
@@ScottyD Never said you made anything up ! My mentioning of the, " Tesla Like " reference was taken from listening to the guys own Double Speak description ! No more, no less ! If you have looked around the internet, there are plenty of people that think this is just inflated publicity, and Free advertising thru RU-vid, for example ! And these, are just opinions ! The last time I looked, people living in the U.S., still have the Freedom to voice ! Until the AI here decides differently ! But I'll stick with believing you can't get away from Physics ! At best, these antennas are certainly a compromise ! But to have to move the antenna to accomplish a satisfactory SWR, is for me , a whole lot like the, " Tail wagging the Dog " ! And you are certainly entitled as well to your beliefs ! Not sure how long you've been licensed, but back in the late 70's, early 80's, there was an outfit that advertised in all the Ham rags ! (And then, there were several !) They promoted an antenna tuner, if I recall correctly, and claimed it was being used and endorsed by all branches of Service, NATO, etc. ! Finally, someone X-rayed one, and found out there were circuit boards with components ! Except none of them were connected ! I believe it was determined that they were using Resistors to achieve a match ! In all the reviews, I've yet to see one of these opened up ? Just seems like someone would want to see what's inside ? Have you looked up the, " Patent number " to see an exploded view ? Guess it simply boils down to what works for you ? But thanks for the opportunity to share our view !

man, you were off on setting the counter weight to zero you had it at +2 and your tracking force was at 2.0 instead of 1.8! In order to properly set the anti-skate you either need a test record or an acrylic platter or something with no grooves. Setting it to the same as the tracking force is not always accurate. I've had instances where it was off by as much as 7 marks on the anti-skate dial!

Vaseline is pretty much the same as Super lube, right🤔
@ScottyD
@ScottyD 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for checking out my video and leaving a comment! I appreciate your engagement. I noticed your question about using Vaseline on electronics. It's a common misconception, but using Vaseline on electronics is generally not recommended. It's not a reliable insulator, and over time, it could lead to conductivity issues, especially with the heat electronics generate. Plus, there's the risk of messy residue and difficulty in cleanup. For electronic insulation, I recommend using materials specifically designed for that purpose, like dielectric compounds or insulating tapes. They're engineered to provide effective insulation without the potential downsides of using Vaseline. I hope this info helps, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!

That grease is called Dielectric Grease. Its not silicone grease, which conducts electricty.
@ScottyD
@ScottyD 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for checking out my RU-vid video. Silicon grease is typically non-conductive and used for lubrication in various applications, including electronics where electrical insulation is crucial. Of course, the conductivity may vary based on the specific product.

You measured the circumference as 5.25", then stated that the diameter is 5.25". However with a circumference of 5.25", the diameter would be 1.67". (d = C / Pi).

Old Guy trick here. To bad they don't make the old abrasive typewriter erasers any longer, but even a No. 2 yellow pencil pink eraser rubbed over the contacts, i. e. antenna and NMO connectors can really help to remove any oxidation and can make an incredible improvement in your SWR. Works well in doing other projects, too.

Your video productions are very well done, Scott. Relatable and fun, with well communicated technological material as well as daily use information for the radio communications community. - One thing of note for viewers… The up-down SWR curve on the 440 band is due to coaxial effect at those frequencies. This is due to the SWR at the radio end being at different portions of the reflected wave per frequency shift wavelength, coaxial velocity factor and set physical feed length. In summary, a sine wave essentially 'merges' with the actual antenna SWR 'curve'. The actual antenna SWR's are essentially a median plot more smoothly between the maximum and minimum raw plot here, not as good as the lowest dip, yet not as high as the peak. [This is seen with antenna-end calibration when feasible, nulling out the coaxial factor.] So if for example the plot shows in an area of frequencies a minimum SWR along an up/down curve of 1.3:1 and the maximum of 2.3:1, the average is (1.3 + 2.3)/2 = 1.8 and the actual antenna itself plot follows a median-trend.

Similar to a Walkman, how do I fix Wow and flutter on one of those toy cassette players ? Thank you so much.
@ScottyD
@ScottyD Год назад
Likely the belts are causing the wow/flutter. A belt can have the correct size, yet still cause excess W/F. If there is a way to get to them and see if they are worn or if they need replacement, I would recommend starting there.
