For me as someone who used to follow back in the super touring days, I find it difficult to work out what some of the cars are!! So many sponsors on the cars makes them ugly! I get there not works cars but even when itv cover the races more times than not u still have no idea on manufacturer
@UKMechanicI agree with most of what you’re saying, but the BTCC isn’t what it once was. Not dead by any means, but in danger of sliding towards ill health. Same circuits, same cars, and mostly the same drivers year on year. While it’s on free-to-air TV in the UK, it’s tucked away on a minor channel (the odd excursion to ITV1 excepted) - albeit with hours-long blanket coverage. Scope for improvement probably sums it up, but there’s definitely enough within the series to continue attracting existing fans. The existing fan base (like me) are probably largely happy, but there seems to be nothing new or eye-catching to attract new fans in recent years.
its not dead but the competition is definitely weaker. back then in the early to mid 2010s we had sheddon plato neal tordoff collard jackson jordan turkington with young new threats emerging such as sutton and cook and ingram that for me was unmatched. now its only sutton and ingram that are world class in my opinion. Turkington is washed and Jake Hill just crashes into other drivers and bottles it in the fastest car
Something I just can’t get my head around is why is it that the BTCC don’t have 1/43 scale models of the current cars of today because I feel like it’s a series that is very much missing from the diecast model world of motorsport.
Now I don’t know if it’s just me or my phone screen but at 7:48 (the start of wet afternoon) on Jake’s car and the few cars after, but the hybrid light looks to be static on red 🤷♂️🤔. Is this now part of one of the new small changes this season, where it now gives the information trackside that the car has ran out of hybrid for the lap/session as well……like it already did on the live leaderboards on tv.
