ancestry came back identifying the Yoruba and esan of nigeria as my original roots/tribe and I'm proudly crying looking at this.. I feel so connected thank you for the video
LovelyIsMyChocolate all Yoruba all over the world world are one. We separated because of expansion, but we have same culture and we all Omoluwabi or Omo-Nuwa-bi depending on the dialects. We are descendants of Onuwadaiyeh aka Judah. That is why Ile Ife is called Ife Odaiyeh. Odaiyeh, Uwadaiyeh, Wadaih Oduah means same thing as Judah or Iyehuda or Yehuda. Olodumare is Iyeh in Yoruba. I am from Ondo state in Nigeria and we have all these traditional dance as well. The Esan people are very close to us too.
ASE-O!!! This is wonderful!! So glad to hear these rhythms played by these fine drummers!! And as you hear, the rhythm is much faster when played with a stick and hand rather than 2 hands.
@upurs007...It is a relic of bygone ages, our forefathers made it a taboo for a woman to drum especially the Yoruba talking drum .But she could, only if the drum was made by gourd, calabash.Because then, the talking drum was not just for entertainment,a filial respect attached to it.But things have changed, now, you have scores of women doing this noble work.
Beautiful!!! I love this!! Africa is the best!! I love black people sooo much!!!!!! Thank you for uplaoding! This is really art, poetry, and POWER!!♥♥♥♥
Thanks for your interest! At this point, I do not have a very clear copy since I put this together years ago. If you email me (dklein@gavilan.edu), I can offer some more details.
