"How we can feel Rusty's frustration behind the screen for being sent into the wall at Daytona - you can sense that he's frustrated when Rusty says, 'Every time I come to Daytona, I have a good car, but I end up in stupid races. 05:45
Back then, those were the best years of short course offroad racing! Man, I do miss those days as a kid. Sometimes, I do wish that they should bring back the competition, with lots of competitors, and many different locations for racing.
I never got to witness this era of short course off road racing. This video provides a way to do that, and I hope more broadcasts from this era resurface online someday.
I've been searching all week trying to remember what this was called. Used to watch this with my dad when I was a kid. It was my favorite because of the massive rooster tails lol. I'm so happy I found this.
This is happening when I turned 14 on that day. It still hurts alot because I was a diehard race fan. I still have his diecast car that my mom gave me on my birthday.
Pretty sad Teresa Earnhardt got a longer standing ovation than the heroes of 9/11. At first I didn’t even think they were even gonna stand for them. The year before we had lost Kenny Irwin Jr & Adam Petty on the track & nothing was even mentioned at the banquet, except for Mark Martin mentioning them in his speech (ALWAYS A CLASS ACT). I know what happened to Dale was a tragedy, but the NYPD & FDNY was 3 months out of the biggest tragedy that ever happened to this country. What they had to endure & what they did isn’t comparable to anything that’s ever happened on a race track 😢
One wonders whether this was a movie-length pilot? I mean, there are so many characters and strange loose ends, like the niece and the preacher’s son, and a door left wide open with the unchecked “become a dynasty” family goal and ol MawMaw talking about being one step closer to hers and the deceased patriarch’s dream. It’s hard to imagine that this was what someone’s idea of a “nascar” movie, even on TV, should look like.
Yep, this is exactly what NASCAR was like in the 90’s - race shops next to the mansion and the hauler driving down the driveway, overly sexy wives machinating, family reverend on the team payroll, not listening to the spotter, Richard Childress flirting with the wife of the driver he’s trying to poach from the Petty’s in the pit nextdoor, crashing on the last lap through the finish line and getting a DNF, all that. Charlotte, 90210.
As a 10 year old it hit me when the NHRA race ended and the announcers said it. Bare in mind the 500 had already finished and no word had been said then I Remember turning to ESPN to see the NHRA race since RPM would be on right after. Gees it hit when it became a reality
At 57:45 when he says he isn’t looking forward to the day all the old cars are gone we are pretty much there😣 another 10 years and you won’t be able to find a 70’s wagon or sedan to derby fuck man I thought somebody should have a business where they build old cars like the shell for derbies and remodels and shit that would be awesome but they’d have to get the molds
Nice greensburg i was over there today I miss these days man the old school derbies old cars I live like 40 minutes from greensburg they still do derbies there at the fairgrounds
That impala at 24:10 also I personally think sedagons shouldn’t be allowed that’s modification that’s like chopping a roundback for stock class or changing rad supports or welding springs solid it’s not right it’s basically creasing
