Wow! As someone who first learned, studied, and performed 'Handel's Messiah' as a Freshman in college over 25 years ago as a member of the HBCU, The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's Vesper Choir, this timeless masterpiece holds a very special place in my heart and mind. I remember officially starting rehearsals in Mid- September for the annual performance which was held the traditional first Sunday in December. This University Choir has produced the likes of Gospel and Christian/Inspirational music living legend Pastor Smokie Norful and countless independent music artists and music educators across the globe. Nevertheless, I have to congratulate this ensemble/chorus on a job well done. I can't think of a major label or commercial release of a reimagined, rearranged 'Handel's Messiah' since the widely known and critically praised 'Messiah: A Soulful Celebration,' which featured the late great musical genius, Artist Pastor Daryl Coley. This effort stands tall amongst all others and brings the oratorio front and center for an enjoyable experience. The transitions were expected but not too forced and this ultimately allows the timeless treasure to breathe against the new arrangements. Well done. May you hold the hand of our Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, and Prince of Peace close this holiday season and every day until you return to him in transition. Merry Christmas and A Bless'ed New Year.
