This is false advertising. Everyone in Johnstown is broke, the weather is depressing AF, and the the only people who haven’t left for greener pastures are the junkies and the criminal element from Philly.
Johnstown is just a massive landfill and the trash coming in nonstop from Philly, NY and NJ are only making that landfill grow bigger and bigger by the day.
Thanks for doing this. I was set to go to the reunion but I had to cancel. Love that you got honked at as soon as you told us where you honked at Reg. Right in the same spot. Epic You are awesome! An inspiration!
So many movies were "based on a true story," and are nothing like the real story. Slap Shot is a film where almost everything really happened, but it was never referred to that way. Always thought that was funny.
Brilliant. I loved this film back in the day. Who would have thought Paul Newman of all the great American film stars would have done a movie like this. The Hansons made this film. We love this in the UK.
It’s Saturday morning and this fantastic video tells me a great weekend is ahead. Tonight’s ’movie night’ will be playing Slap Shot as well. Thank you 🙏
Hey Steve, it's Jim Starr in Hershey, PA ... I am glad you are doing well and I appreciate the tour. lol - It's been a while since the AHL team you played on (Baltimore Skipjacks) came to Hershey to play the Bears and all you guys would do the "snake" on the ice at the end of warmups. Remember that winning streak you and Baltimore had, I believe it was a 17 game win streak and the funny thing was that the streak started when you beat the Bears ... and 17 games later you were back in Hershey and the Bears ended your streak. See Bennett Wolfe much? : ) ... You and the rest of the Hanson's posed for a pic with me when you guys came to the area for a charity game. You guys had a bad temper as you started roughing me up just because I asked you if you wanted a stinkin' root beer. ... I mean, you could of just said No. LOL - ... Real life fun fact , my dad worked security for the filming of the movie ! My mom and me as a baby were part of the crowd during filming ! For years my dad had his pay stub from the movie . Heard Newman was a really nice guy and treated people well !
Slapshot...My ultimate favorite movie...My hometown Hornepayne NW Ontario is where Goldie Goldthorpe grew up and played hockey...He was the inspiration for Ogie Ogilthorpe in the movie. Also a little known fact...It was the first American movie translated in french in Quebec. No doubt that Yvon Barrette/Denis Lemieux and Yvan Ponton/Jean-Guy Drouin had something to do with that...They would've say something like " If you do the translation in France like usual, It will sound totally stupid " In Quebec, Hockey is way stronger than religion 👍👍
I remember my dad telling me that the Hanson brothers were real and were playing themselves with different names, but i never believed him until way later haha
This movie will always have a special place in my heart. I was a little boy in the mid 80's when i saw it for the first time and fell in love with the sport instantly.
Its time for gen z to see how men used to play hockey. You screw around you get your ass beat, then you go have a pop together and reflect. Todays society needs that.
Thank you Steve! As a fan of the (Old) WHL (you know, The San Diego Gulls, Portland Buckaroos, Seattle Totems, SLC Golden Eagles, Denver Spurs etc.) Slapshot was not far off from the truth for MLH. Fans would say "Well, we lost but we won 2 fights".
Although I'm slightly older then you by 7 years I also have a name the same as yours. I live in Moline, Il. and have seen you live with the rest of the Hansen Brothers, when you came to our arena The Mark of the Quad Cities a number of years ago during the hockey season for the QC Mallards. Love the movie was a fan of the Hansen Brothers. Wish you 3 could revisit our community again. Glad you overcame your bout with cancer. I can't imagine what you went though.
Slap Shop is a masterpiece of Cinema. My wife saw it for the first time with me this past christmas in Florida. She loved it! That was probably the 15th time ive seen it. Yes, Slap Shot is the greatest hockey film ever. The two Carlson's and the Hanson did such a great job playing the Hanson Brother's. All three were great skaters.
