Be careful using a shop vac or any other vacuum they don’t make Hunter Douglas blinds like they used to. I’ve already broke mine. They’re glued and that will cause them to separate when any pressure is put on them they also fray at the edges nowadays I’ve had some for 30 years and I have some two years old. The two year olds are not like the old ones.

Thanks a lot. I have the old brackets, and the key was doing this with the shade all the way down.

Honestly this thing is such a bad design. They really should have the sides closed so bugs can't get in. Is Hunter Douglas a cheapo brand? I have no idea since they came with my house

This is the BEST instructions and it worked. We had the 2nd generation attachment and had viewed many videos online. Yours is the best!! Had we NOT followed the instructions, we could have broken them. Thanks!

I wish I had found this info sooner. It saved me a lot of time and trouble. The way I was thinking I was going to get the bugs removed was going to be a long somewhat cumbersome process.

I would have never figured out the bracket that the flat head screw driver is required to remove the shade, very unintuitive design. Thanks!!!!

Thank you! For those with type 1, know that it may be very difficult to get the tabs to release. try occasionally pulling out while rotating the trailing (rear) edge down and the front edge slightly up. The tabs CAN stick and it takes a near superhuman amount of push on the screwdriver to get the tab to release. Let's hope HD never goes back to type 1.

Can someone explain to me in details why or how does the push (I get this), but the twist (I don't get this) helps in removing the blinds? I actually did this and it works, cleaned it, and installed it back. But I am so curious how the mechanics work?! Mine is the old V1 (1st) version, and I've been looking at the shape carefully and many times but I can't for the life of me figure out how the twist helps considering the shape, part, and everything 😭

Thank you so much for explaining the difference between the brackets!!! I was tearing my hair out because every other video and my written instructions from Hunter Douglas ONLY referred to the most current bracket. You are the only one who addressed all three iterations.

I moved into a condo with dirty silhouette blinds I thought would have to be replaced. While vacuuming removed large pieces and bugs, I found swiffer extendable wand duster worked best to remove dust/dirt outside and inside each cell. Time consuming process - used up a whole box of duster refills (!) - but really did the trick.

What about the dirt? These shades came with the house. I've tried to spot clean and I did remove the bugs with compressed air. I also got a skinny garden wooden stick and wrapped a piece of an old t shirt and submersed in water to clean between the vanes... there are still spots that are dirty.. Problem is we moved to a small town not sure who to call.. dry cleaner? carpet cleaner?

Very informative video. I used your magnets idea per your video (and another posted to YT as well before ordering magnets online). The whole thing from start to finish took about an hour just because I've never tried it before. That included taking the blinds down, measuring where I needed to put the magnets on the "Blinds Rail" (make sure you have them over far enough away from the wall hanging brackets or your going to have to move them over a bit to get the bracket to actually close and snap shut). Then I measured where the "Valance" magnets needed to be placed to match up with the ones I screwed onto the shades top rail. I ordered the strongest magnet I could and trust me this valance isn't going anywhere and I only used two on a 35 inch valance. Then I rehung the shades and installed the valance with the magnets on it and am very happy with the results. Nice thing is I can adjust the valance higher or lower. All I had to do was slide the valance into position where I wanted it. On a scale of 1-5 on difficulty with 1 being "No Problem" and 5 being "difficult" this was a 2 at most. Thanks

You don't talk about spacers that are available for the old brackets but don't seem to be available for the new. I have not seen any parts that allow for deeper sills with the new brackets, have you?
