Because every race is a new story to be told. And videos without the data and insights are just noise. I am breaking that popular habit.
Salut , de belles descentes , mais je suppose aussi de bonne montées, ..oui pour la pression des pneus , moi pareil ..1.2 max , bien je roule pas pareil avec mon production privé.., mais avec le fatbike je roule en 0.5 max ..
Hey Charles, indeed - in order to go down for prolonged time, you firstly need to go up, haha! And that - not always is an easy thing to do: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w88zedI5BXU.html Tires pressure is a delicate topic, which everyone has their own opinions, but for tech terrain going with anything more sounds like bouncing around:)
@@christianwibroerasmussen6143 TBH I think it has signifcant affect. I am considering maybe trying -30 with shorter stem, but have to do same calculations first. However, I would say it depends what discipline you ride more. If it’s XCM, then you are more than fine. If more technical, then it might have bigger impact:)
Top! As O said before the technique looks so much better! What tire pressures are you using for this kinda of terrain? Believe the wheels are still Duke with 30 front and 28 back right?
Thanks! I am kind of slow learner for things which involves using my body, ha! But in this race I somewhat started "feeling it" a lot more than before:) As for the pressures, I ran on the lower end - 1.15-1.2 Front, and ~1.3 rear, being both 2.4 tires on rims you mentioned. HOWEVER, this race finished my rear Lucky Jack Ultra after 3 years of using it - can't complain much:) Last stage I completed with duct tape protection :D More about it soon!
@@AngeloCarneiro-o8xnot really - I am 82kg guy! 😅 this pressure I have tested in rough terrain a lot, and it’s kind of the best for tech areas. Bit slow on flats, but I swallow that to have more fun elsewhere:)
@@Davymontracing nice to see some input from GC winner! Mostly likely never captured you - been hell too fast, but maybe someday, ha! 🤗 congrats on great performance!
Hi @tom10crafted, really appreciate the work you do. This is the best work I have seen on the Roc, and I do it every year and check RU-vid as well every year. I'd love to know what software are you using to generate the 3D map with the progressive track at the begining of the video ? Thanks !
Very high winds at times. And the last single tracks weren't exactly friendly, sacre bleu. Well, just take un grand café latté, with a croissant au beurre, and you should be fine for stage 3. :)
I am afraid for 100km with 3000m no amount of croissants would have helped me, haha! But mine favourite so far is with almonds - I don't know how it's made, but it seems baked for a second time with almonds, in between, or something like that, haha! In regards to trails in S2 - they were from enduro course, thus no surprise amount of challenging terrain was high. Add wet and slippery into equation and...Here I am hiking :d
@@tom10crafted .. hey , mais le roc d'azur c'est toute une histoire, perso j'ai trois fois le roc , mais toujours le roc marathon .. et cela à été de belles découvertes à chaque année ..
@@charlesb-0457 I can see that coming. It was my first time here, but depending on the weather and conditions every time it can be a different story to tell :) Well, and we are different every time, too!
Don’t know, specifically because the cage has no charging doors. Regardless - if you have a chance, consider upgrading to 9th - using anything below 7th is waste of your memories, really :) (there are plenty of people selling off used cameras, for fraction of the cost, if money is a matter) but recording with 5th is waste in many many means 🫶🏼
Thanks for sharing your insights. Would be cool if you shared some sort of calendar of your planned (and uplanned) races in europe. Hard to find the good races, the info is all over the place.
My pleasure! The best resource I have found for races research is this: www.bikesight.nl/mountainbike-kalender-2024/ It does not have ALL ALL, but A LOT for sure - from daily to stage races. Great job by guys from Netherlands. As of my calendar, usually I have "some" potential options, and then see how it aligns with other stuff. With that said very rarely I do early entries, thus loosing some opportunities. However, for next year I am, first time, registered for Costa Blanca Bike Race ages ago - ages for me are almost half a year prior, haha :D In case anyone are interested - you can also get 20% off by TOM10CRAFTED_20%CBBR. I might even create a video of why I am going there two years in a row, as this is something I rarely do :)
Hi Thomas! How much psi is in your nude and with how much sag do you go? Do you use full travel with this setup on a usual / gnarly round? I run about 160psi at my 78kg (incl. Gear): sag is ok, also feels ok... but i never use full travel (maybe 2/3 to 3/4). Should i go lower with the pressure, what do you think?
Hey man, I am a bit heavier (82kg without gear), and I tend to go around 165psi when it is more technical. On faster marathons I even add 5-10more. Honestly don't look into sag setup anymore, as I pretty much used to the feeling based on the psi's listed ! If you don't use full travel, then absolutely try reducing the air by 2psi or so until you reach the point where o-ring gets few mm from falling up
rolling resistance changes on technical terrain, wider tires roll faster over rocks, because they absorb the impacts better and bounce less. Also more grip, less slip, so it is terrain dependant.
Absolutely! I can hardly watch 2.2's at the start line of technical races. Yes, they might climb faster on ascends, but when it is trails time - they are done, most of the time:)
Thanks for the video 👍🏽, any updates on the bag? Any regrets? I noticed that you didn’t take off the derailleur and brake rotors. Have you ever had any issues with any damage to bike during flights.
Hey James, thanks! In last two years I had 10+ flights - zero issues, no damages, nothing. Disc rotors has their own compartment on side pockets (more rigid area to protect them). For derailleur - it is a good notice. However, when wheels are added into luggage, basically there is no room for something to go wrong there - maybe it could be ideally duct taped to prevent from free movement. Other than that - no concerns there.
@@tom10crafted thanks very much for the reply. I’ve ordered the bag…. Also did you have to let air out of your shock and fork? Do you recall what the bag weighed with bike. I’m hoping to keep under 50lbs for most airlines. I will travel with my large Santa Cruz Blur XC
@@jamesturner9858 I never remove air from suspension, keeping it as is. With tires - I reduce it a bit, but not totally flat. It also helps a great deal when adding 2.4 tires into compartments - I guess 2.5 would be absolute limit for proper insertion. In regards to weight, bag is bit shy under 10kg, with bike it is about 21kg. The main annoying factor is if some airlines allows 25kg limit (majority in europe 32kg, thankfully) So with 32kg, you are free to add extras like shoes, apparel, etc. With 25kg limit, you have to wiggle around more:)
Miss Calderon has the perfect height for standing climbs. Her legs are perfectly vertical when she cycles downward, which liberate tension on her knees. She leans heavily forward her handles when climbing, which put her parallel to the pedals, also preventing leaning backward. And finally she doesn't sway her bike too much, it's more her body that does the left to right movement. In the long run, I wonder she won't have shoulders or wrist issues. Not sure any bigger person can keep this position for long. Happy her crash wasn't serious. Still daunted by the lack of officials. I have seen more of them in races in Argentina/Michigan. There not UCI.
Indeed, her technique is flawless, well, at least looking from aside it even looks easy, haha! BTW she has some aftermath thoughts in Instagram about the crash. In regards to officials - dunno, it feels that there were not that much dangerous places. And in most tricky ones someone been there most of the times, thus for me it was and looked ok.
Praktiškai niekad nevažiuoju pagal FTP, galbūt todėl ir mirštu anksčiau ar vėliau :D Bet kokiu vadovaujuosi teorija - geriau bandyti kiek gali, o po to jau KAŽKAIP :D
@@tom10crafted Well for me it went fine, but definitely not in your league! My time was 4:08:12, but started way too defensive to conserve energy .. Improved my time from 10 years ago though by 8 mins, but aiming to improve by 10-15 minutes - fingers crossed - for next year 😁
@@haakonwibe9379 result time is relative thing, dependant on hours spent in the saddle:) Now that is some time stretch in between the events! How did it changed over years?? I assume it got faster in general, but what about amount of participants? And organization? Curious!
@@tom10crafted I think there were a lot more participants in 2014, around 16000 I believe, 2022 was a lot less but has been a little increase this year with over 5000 riders I believe. Didn't notice the difference too much myself apart from in the early downhill sections where it was a bit crowded, since it was over 60 starting groups / pools back in 2014.. The organization is still really good with lots of drink stations and such, even the "surprise" raisins and the malted beer which has energy but isn't everyones taste.. Lastly the track has changed slightly since 2014 when it was 91 km but faster, and 84 km in 2024 with more interesting actual terrain.
The difference is the altitude. Those riders taht passed you on climbs, are way more used to the high altitude. I can see it in the channel of @eAlex_me . The guy ride in Germany/Sweden and Austria, so, you can really see, who is used to the mountains and altitude. And his 6.4 stature is a disadvantage to some extend.
That is a very good notice man! Arriving to such race from flatlands two days before guarantees hard time on climbs - simply because it started off at 1100m already, with peak summits of 2000m+. Especially on S2 at the top it was deadly. However, worth noting that after one week being there, while on lower power and not in a race mode, it felt already more sustainable :) Not an excuse though, but something to consider!
@@tom10crafted From what I read from training sites: it takes one week to begin to have more red cells, two weeks to feel more stronger. But most says it takes 4 weeks to really fully adapt, and this for athletes. Ordinary people like me, we suffer longer :) . So, you should begin to feel better now. I wonder how fast you loose it, however. You will see.
@@Dubeau2008 That is interesting! When I arrive to places above 1000m, I do forget all the time how hard it is going to be, haha. And rarely I spend long enough time there to really spot the difference as well as degradation level moving downwards.
My Bold Linkin lT(Spark) , has rattle at Headset when braking, I have tried many ways but do not work. Is it normal to have some movement at headset when braking? Thanks.
At no point this can be interpret as being normal. Try to figure out where specifically the movement is coming from - whether it is cups, or bearings themselves.
Wow, great insides of the race and from different riders. Personally I would have preferred to watch one view at a time in order to have full screen. It is nicer while riding my smart trainer 🙂. Other that that, awesome rides! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Majority of onboards in my channel are single-camera, only this year I started playaround with more advanced showcase of the races. Thus, there are plenty of them single camera! :) Here you can find playlist of onboards: ru-vid.com/group/PL67TKb1Z1m80P_FexRG8qNmsUNs1hj3j_
