Great info, but i dont understand why you wouldn’t just go to a 14 front and add two or theee teeth to the rear. Then you’re not fidling with shaving the spacer and youd have room for a more heavy duty chain.
Great point Andrew, couple of reasons really, but mostly was out of curiosity after seeing reports of others having damage, so wanted to identify what was happening. Our DX now runs the heaviest we'd use with more clearance than standard, so it's a cheap and easy job for the guys that have already put larger chains on without the need to buy sprockets again. Since posting this, the guys that race the DesertX in the Hellas Rally said they did the same and have had no problems.
