Hey guys! My name is Emily and I am a nursing student who makes videos on RU-vid. What a crazy ride it is being in nursing school, but so incredibly worth it! I hope you guys find these videos useful and informative!
I have been set on Psychology for the last six years or so and I am already in my Junior year at university. But I think I want to switch to a BSN, which is really exciting but also really scary!
Your videos are awesome! I’m starting nursing school this fall and I’m absolutely terrified. Everyone just tells me how hard it is and how many people fail but this video was great.
Otherwise, I had had different experience inasmuch as my diploma degree is nursing department which I just learnt only 1 semester at 4th semesters for psychological behaviours & symtoms.
The only downside to this particular application process-Hospital volunteering- is that it is VERY competitive. Many times, Interviews, orientations, reviews of availability, tests, and lots of paperwork is required. This is especially for the bigger, newer hospitals such as the one I am applied to.
Hi Emily, how was the interview process? I saw they require an interview. What kind of questions did they ask? And did you tell them that you knew you wanted to do nursing while working on your first bachelors but decided to pursue it after anyway?
awesome video, thank you for your perspective! I just started as well and it has been a difficult journey thus far. I have documented some of the things i believe is important and have posted some videos myself. Check it out if anyone is having questions!
How do you get over nerves before a shift? I have my first volunteering shift today (I did a job shadowing last week) and I am so nervous because I am a very anxious person. It's really exciting but talking to patients and/or their family members is nearly terrifying. I have always wanted to be a surgeon because I want to help people on a deep physical level but I have never ever been a confident person, especially talking to strangers.
I know this was posted a long time ago but I would highly suggest not doing it online. Doing pre-reqs online is fine, but the actual program should be done in person. Ive worked in a hospital setting before and I can tell you that while they dont admit it they discriminate against those who get their degrees online.
How much would you say you studied during the accelerated program? Do you feel that coming into the nursing program, not being clinical or having clinical experience, it was still okay and manageable and now after the program you feel 100% confident while working on a unit?
Oh gosh I love psychology to death but the gray area thing does make feel feel weird haha. I love psych and medicine too. thanks for the video it gave me alot of insight
what kind of volunteer hours do they require? do they have to be hospital hours? right now I have experience in daycare and volunteer at sex trafficking/ parenthood places. should I get clinical experience ?
Can you do a video on what clinicals are like? Is it graded? If so, how do they grade you? Is it more just a hands on approach vs being in a classroom all day? You should do a video after your first day of work too :)
Glad to hear! I'm good, started my accelerated program last month. It's been challenging but doable. Please do an update video. Would love to hear how you navigated and survived the rest of your nursing journey.
I mean it's good to meet new people and gain new skills along the way, my purpose is to meet new people and make new friends, the reason is a long story. But anyway it's a good way to start getting into the health care field.
I'm a psych major looking into ABSN program. Not gonna purse a psychology probably. I feel like I've been lying to myself and saying I will! Lol but I think an ABSN will be good for me after graduation. It makes me nervous jumping into a new study!
+SARRDAWN Oh trust me, it is nerve wrecking. But you are really setting yourself up to succeed with the ABSN program. Also, I never could have imaged how much I use my psych degree while I am nursing! Good luck, I think you will be totally happy with your decision :)
I am a recent graduate from a Medical Administration Assistant program w/o any medical front office experience, and have decided the best way for me to accrue much needed front office skills is for me to volunteer at my local trauma center (Harborview Medical Center)...Also what better way to get acquainted with the medical practice at a volunteer pace of speed...I even got the chance to baby sit. I know that baby sitting has little to nothing to do with front desk - but hey, let's not forget that babies are customers too.
+cocoreo89 Coming from a psych background, exams were difficult. Nursing tests required a completely different thought process. All the answers are correct, but you have to pick the most correct answer. It took me a while to figure out how to take nursing school exams, but hey I survived!
Hi! I know this is an older video, but I am thinking about going back to school for nursing. I have a Bachelors in Business and management... But were you able to work full time in this program? I am trying to take my pre req's (A&P's, Microbiology) before applying to nursing school and I am also going to start volunteering at a hospital.
+cocoreo89 I did a 13 month accelerated program, personally I was not able to work. I only know a couple of people who might have worked as a tech during the late couple of months of our program (that's when things started to slow down for us). And even so, they were not working full time. I do not think it would be possible do work full time!
Hi Emily I see you will be completing your ABSN Program in a few months? wow! that's exciting, Congrats! I will be starting my ABSN this Fall and it's 15 months. I'm pretty excited to start and looking to get as much info to help me prepare as I go into the program. Can you please make a video on how you study? (regular exams and the cumulative exams) On a typical week how many exams are you likely to be preparing for, and how do you prepare for all that while juggling other things? do you guys get tested with ATI or HESI? How do you prepare for such exam? Thank you! :)
Oh goodness, I am terrible. I will make a video I promise! No excuses, but I just got so busy! Now that I am graduated and done, I have some more free time!
I been wanting to volunteer in a hospital for the longest, I think I'm actually going to start. I really want the experience to help me figure out what I want to do but I for sure want to be in a hospital.
Hey (: I'm in the same boat right now as you were. I'm a prenursing student who may want to be a PA, and I am starting to volunteer at a nursing unit at Stanford to see what I really want to do. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Are you still set to be a nurse or did you change your mind to be a PA instead? :D
+andiee248 Hello! I somehow missed your comment and I apologize! I am currently 158 days away from graduating nursing school (but who is counting ;)) I love the care that nurses give their patients, they can make or break a hospital stay. But you cannot go wrong with going to PA school either!
