In the new (in 1995) office building I worked in, the designers spec'd those "warm" LEDs that really were about like a fluorescent Gro Lites, which are bad for your eyes. Because they found out they would not be efficient light-wise and it was too dark, they added an additional light fixture in the design with four additional tubes to go with the two fixtures that would have been perfect with cool bright bulbs. Many, including me, turned off the ceiling fixtures and used a lamp for years. They finally replaced the bulbs with white lights in the Cool Bright range. However, because of the third light fixture, it was overly lit and was so bright, you could perform surgery in you office, so we stayed with our lamps. Idiots.
Most LED bulbs have Kelvin.. Anything 3000K is acceptable to eyes..Anything over 3500 is irritating to eyes. Bigger problem is if you are using a light bulb for "heating" too. (Eg... Lava lamps, kids Oven toys) Almost impossible to find an incandescent bulb now.
Some of the nicest "warm" light is from a tungsten bulb with one of those "squirrel cage" filaments. Instead of driving a short filament with lots of current to get a bright light, they run a longer filament with the same current to get the same or similar brightness, but because it's spread out across a longer filament each part of it is not as hot, so it's a much warmer colour of light. It's almost like a candle flame. About LED bulbs on a dimmer: I still find it slightly disturbing how when an LED is set low on a dimmer, it just looks grey, like I've got a vision problem. A tungsten bulb normally shifts towards a redder colour at a low dimmer setting. Not to worry though, there are some LED bulbs that emulate the shift to a warmer light at low dimmer setting.
I'm an electrician for will over 30 years, and even I get confused sometimes. I've been saying this for years. You need a degree in "Bulbology" in order to purchase the right bulb nowadays.
Thanks for the advice. just recently heard about watering the foundation ,just moved into my First America Home this past March so I'm extremely appreciative for this tip.
