I have one female convict. A platinum parrot and a fire mouth. They keep chasing each other. But idk why they all were getting along fine. I changed he tank around and make sure their fed. But it's not bullying of one. The smallest one the parrot will follow until the others turn . Then move to where they can't get it and do this fluttering thing. It's like it's teasing the bigger fish. I had it for a month and they all ate together and we're living peacefully for the types
When you moved the tank around you changed the territories they establsihed. They are now re-establishing their territories in the tank. Give them a week or 2 to sort it out and you should be ok
While it’s true that hybridizing different species should generally be avoided, crossing different strains within the same species is often a great idea, as it allows you to avoid inbreeding depression. Pure-breeding is inbreeding.
Beautiful specimen, happy to see them in a deserving tank. Currently setting up a 20 long for Julidochromis, considering adding these guys in with them to try a semi peaceful Tanganyikan community. Maybe with an ink fin Contracept in with them but that might be pushing it too far
Depends on the species. I have done Xenotoca eiseni and lyonssi just fine. Ateanobius toweri and Ameca splendens would be find as well. There are definately some that I woudn't do.
Agree about the skimmer. The issue I have with it is when the water level starts getting a tad low, you can really hear the air gurgling in it. Without it, you could let the water level drop a lot lower, but I guess it's kind of like a maintenance reminder, so maybe a mixed blessing, lol
I'm glad to see your Tiger Teddies are also doing well. I got my original pair from Dan's, then found some juveniles on Aquabid. I don't even bother with the LBBS, though sometimes they do get walter worms or vinegar eels. Mine are raised instead on infusoria colonies from the java moss, floating plants with "feathery roots", and stuff like the hornwort in your tank. I find these plants which are notorious for getting gunk tangled up in them are great for culturing infusoria that the fry instinctively hunt down. They're pretty easy to flake train as long as they've got a little size on them from the infusoria. I can go weeks without feeding live foods, and they'll do fine. I really think the plants are the key, get something that grows well in a mossy or feathery form and you're golden with these.
