I was born in early 96, just on the back end of Gen Z. I noticed I share some similarities with some of these kinds of humor, but I still don't even understand half of gen z humor because I'm just too old now lol
you keep calling them gen z humor and I don't understand that...they're gen x and broadcast to whoever watches adult swim. At their peak it was millennials, older z too but def millennials. I'm a millennial who is continuing education and have tried introducing tim's work to some classmates who were all gen z, none of them were interested and I was getting the 'eww creepy cringe millennial' vibe from them even tho i'm 100% not straight and not actually being creepy. Maybe my classmates are just preps idk. So that's my thoughts on you calling it gen z humor.
Not generational humor, just generational to people who do not have any knowledge outside the "hive", starting with millennials and including every generation living now, in the phone, while everything else is a task to go trough, like addicts. Repeat humor is old, so is the making fun of making fun, as it is called "you wasted my time humor", cause everyone is now and that has the base in life is a joke, that ends with a blast, if you the singer of nirvana or read Dostoevsky, so god is dead for you and you are the king to be amused. Which again can be funny if you are doing it to a person like that too, the difference is which one is laughing or not and then it's funny again, cause that how a person who believes in God sees it, life is just life and we all retards (sinners). It is just in picture format, so imagination can be imagined, not told. It's also "offensive" to call or just talk to anyone now (waste of time) so... you left with text, picture and video for your daily interaction with people.
Becuase its not humour. Its more "i recognize these patterns and absurd mixture of these patterns while also mocking something I dont even want to understand, everythig is meaningless and stupid in life"
Watching a video of a man trying to explain how Tim and Eric's comedy works is like watching a man trying to explain how an amusement park works... it's not necessary, just go and enjoy it... or don't
I enjoyed your video essay and I just wanted to say, it would be better received if you made less references to generations etc. Rookie mistake, I know, kid.
High depression rates are due to oversaturation tainting the youths ability to connect with any media or hobby. Millennials were able to counter sadness with interest. Oversaturation makes all interests linked with trendiness, and disables ability to connect With things and people to counter said sadness.
06:30 regarding "beans" and "potato": in mid 2000s in Russia, the funny word was "shovel". People would just say an unfunny joke/anecdote, then say "shovel" for no reason whatsoever.
As someone that was born in 2007, our humor sucks. It’s not funny, and really just lazy. Because there is no actual thought in making a joke. My friend sends me random pictures of a dog, black guy, etc. with no context. It’s really boring.
Every generation brings amazing people and perspectives to this horrible world. As a Gen Z I would like to welcome Gen Alpha to create and do whatever they see wrong with the world. I hated it I invite you to hate it with me. I remember hating old people who thought my generation was stupid. HA I'll hate them forever, help me show them what new eyes can do!
You know, this video aged perfectly in the last 4 years. Now that the gen z is slowly getting out of the internet because of maturing (I think) and the next generation of 'humor' is taking over with basically not emotions to be found, it shows that the humor evolved: from thinking a lot about life and the many choices to be made in it very quickly (hence the memes being funny for a short time when I grew up) to be about the little things and a "non-intrusive" humor to not hurt anyone's felling, but still just let a breathe out of your nose when you see it. Humor bacame much more fast to depricate then gen Z humor but it is not because of children having a shorter attention span, but because they grew into the internet WE (gen Z) had built around them. Edit is only for spell checking.
I think the fear of internet rejection and not keeping up with what’s popular is probably why the low grade humor is popular if it’s not egoistic or to try hard you can’t get made fun of. I think gen z has graduated to low key and humor and authenticity with the gen z intern videos. It’s actually cool to just be yourself even if it’s awkward because we are all tired of pretending to be cool and know we are all real and have problems so let’s be appreciative of the authenticity that doesn’t really exist anymore anywhere. I think I have a dry but optimistic sense humor. Stuff might suck but that’s the joke just try to have a good time anyway
I mean we might be the first generation of kids that had such prolific generation of art. Like the tools were available, but kids have a weird sense of humor that isn’t very sophisticated. Also you’ll notice that the 90s has a very natural sense of optimism that gen z just didn’t grow up with
