If esports had been a thing 20 years ago (beyond StarCraft and WC3), this would have been a lot more popular. No other game I have ever played has put player skill front and centre like this game did. There are no AI quirks to mess up your units, build order losses that put strategy over talent, variable damage from the same skills, or other considerations that get in the way of two people going toe-to-toe and the best one walking away. I want to see a MOBA with this combat system and wellsprings of rune power around the map to fuel the cool weapon abilities (maybe toned down a bit though-throwing instakill avalanches with each sword swing is a bit too nuts). Or remastering the game to allow a 20-person (4 teams of 5) dungeon mode on a huge map like PUBG. Or a stronghold-based game format like For Honour. Always make and equip your own character however you want-no presets or kits or anything that limits you from the endless versatility you could achieve in the original game. You can get perks to slightly boost damage with certain weapons or marginally increase shield durability, etc.-nothing game breaking and nothing someone can't unlock within 20 hours of first starting.
When I was growing up, waaaay back in the early 2000s, I remember playing this with my brother on PC (we played Rune Gold)... we had our usernames set to "Buf" and "Fub", or something along those lines. I remember there being some sort of level up system as well... maybe it was a mod for that specific server? But I remember being able to cast spells that got stronger the more you leveled up. Heh, good times... Then again, I haven't played the multiplayer in a long ass time, so maybe that was just part of the system. Can't seem to find any info on it though, so maybe whatever that mod was... well, it was lost to time.
I spent countless hours on those mods when I was younger, so I still remember the names There was a mod which you played PVE mostly, It was called "VAS" mods, you had to grind a weapon type or a spell to train it, there was multiples fun spells avaible There was also another one with with custom long swords which was purely PVP called "MKPA", you had poison type sword etc & some projectile magic
10 dollars for this masterpiece isn't much. Everyone wants things for free but if that's how it worked then devs wouldn't be able to continue making games.
This is a predecessor to the dark souls gameplay style. Never knew about this game till today. Seen it in magazines and shit back in the day but never played it.
you can't run this game 1080p because it's only 4:3 resolution: 640:480 - 800x600 - 1204x768... 1600 x1200. I have 16:10 monitor aka 1920x1200 (1080p = 16:9 = 1920x1080), and i can select 1600x1200 because my vertical resolution is 1200 :) BUT maybe by manually editing the configuration file....
Me and my friend used to play this game all of the time on the PS2 and would do nothing but have an endless 1v1 in the arena. I'd never played a game so badass and brutal as a kid before. Hacking off limbs and heads? Fuck yeah.
It was a great arcade game in 1998!!! it's a shame thaht there's no more tittle like this, now :s Quite hard, enjoyable, really nice (the new 32 bits mode was a nighthmare for video cards :D ) Dethkarz, Rollcage and many more.... pitin que c'était bien!
Ports 7777 and 7778 also you can search "Rune library" on google to seek more information. There is some Rune Gameplay (Brazilaian) watch?v=pkTGMB_ElO0&list=UU0sasSpua8N9Ps8XVM0X8OQ
This is one of the most underrated games ever made. I've spent countless hours playing this with my brother... so much to do and so many good people to meet.
