@@yuuokami2156this is debatable and cannot be proved. There are many factors which could affect the outcomes in modern society, dietary habits, chemical exposure, vaccinations aswell as genetic changes in humans over the past 100 years are dramatically different to the past. Research is ongoing but there is more than likely a significant contributing factor which currently still eludes us. Medical advances in the future will no doubt be able to pinpoint the exacerbating factors and causes of ASD. It is complicated because it is more of a neurological state rather than a disorder.

Thank you so much. I'm so glad you gained something from my videos. I really need to do an updated video as Tide is 4.5 now and it's been a while since I've put anything up. The sleeping has always been a bit tricky. Tide slept in my bed until his baby sister came along 3 months ago. So we started laying down with him to fall asleep in his own bed, and it would take up to an hour! We eventually threw the towel in 2 months ago and made him put himself to sleep. Amazingly enough he obliged and as long as his brother is on the top bunk, he happily puts himself to sleep. But, he still wakes every single night around 2am and screams to be brought into our bed. Lucky we have a king size bed. He has a weighted blanket but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I don't really mind having him in bed, I just remind myself that one day he will be grown and all of these sleep problems will be a distant memory. That's the best thing we can do I think!

What a lovely neurodivergent family. You 2 are parenting really well and your kids are doing great. One thing I noticed is you have lights that flicker 6:21. There is a very strong likelihood that at least one of your family members is being affected by this. Dimming LED lights can often cause flicker and a lot of LEDs flicker as there is no current international regulations in place to stop light manufacturers from making LEDs lights that flicker under 2kHz potentially causing health issues (like migraines, malaise etc) for individuals highly sensitive to "invisible" light flicker (even though they bought a regulation in for fluorescent lights for the same exact issue). As we can only easily consciously see flicker below 60Hz it is often hard to tell when a light is still flickering at a potentially harmful frequency. The easiest way to check if a light is flickering is to hold a phone camera up to a light about 5-10 cm away from the light bulb (not the fixture) and see if (when the camera's auto exposure is enabled which is usually by default) the light will streak/strobe across the phone screen. I personally have found that Philips Eye Comfort range of LEDs do not flicker (unless dimmed). I have also found every brand of smart RGB light I could find flicker, which is extremely bad as they can alternate colour flickering which is even worse for health. Here is an article from the IEEE detailing the issue bio-licht.org/02_resources/info_ieee-pem_2014-09_led-flickering.pdf

I think you were just describing my daughter. She’s 6 and we just got her official L2 ASD diagnosis. It’s been a long road convincing our pediatrician that something was off. (USA) But the DR. diagnosing her had zero doubts. She has never played with dolls the way others do. With her talking baby dolls, she would open their back, take batteries out, and put them back exactly as they ought all at the age of 20 months. Even today she was pulling her Barbie legs out, pretending to be a surgeon, and pop it back in. ASD is both confounding and amazing.

My son is 2.5, no diagnosis yet, which is extremely annoying. We're in the UK and it seems to take forever here to see a paediatrician to get a diagnosis. I dont know how hard it was in Australia? A lot of things you've mentioned are my son, like the fascination with lights and the biting into food which has always bothered me and made me wonder what it is. Like sandwiches I have to cut into tiny squares which is so hard because he simply won't bite into one. I've ended up giving him little crackers at nursery as they are small enough to plop in his mouth as he tends to do that anyway. He day dreams all the time at mealtimes I have to remind him to feed himself. Just wondering how is your son getting on now? It's so hard to predict how independent they are going to be as they get older it's just so hard. Want to see light at the end of the tunnel

It was mainly in comparison to his older sister and the differences in their milestones. He is now a little over 2.5 years old and every symptom that you described your son having, mine has too. I haven’t seen a specialist just yet, but your video is even more conformation and a lot of help. It can be emotional and overwhelming but it helps to know that there are other moms going through the same experience as myself when it comes to getting help for our children. Your son is so sweet! I keep watching these early sign videos because my 2 year old has all the signs except he shows lots of interest in other people and children and doesn't have a language delay. He was constantly verbally stimming until recently, now he can talk a bit and repeats the same "stories" over and over again. Today he was chatting up everyone on the train telling them about his cars (2 identical cars, one in each hand, just holding on to them without playing - another sign I heard). He is an extreme sensory seeker and has lots of problems with food textures (also doesn't want to chew or use a spoon) and wearing hats, shoes, his glasses... The pediatrician who did the evaluation kind of excluded autism because he immediately acknowledged her and asked for cars - but what he does with them ist mostly just watching the wheels spin. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm extremely grateful he is learning to talk.

@@Charlotte-ti6oq Thanks for asking :) It's great to come back to these comments and see what I wrote a few months ago. My son has become a great talker by now, likes to sing songs and can even rhyme words. He's often hyperactive and cannot focus so all signs point to ADHD - in my country it isn't diagnosed before age 5 but his pediatrician and occupational therapist are quite sure of it. I'm really glad he made a friend at daycare and since she told him his eyes cross when he doesn't wear his glasses, he's a lot more willing to wear them (it didn't count coming from me LOL). I haven't managed to toilet train him yet and he still struggles with everyday tasks like putting his shoes on, riding a scooter or just feeding himself with a spoon because he gets distracted by everything. Next year when he moves from the toddler group at daycare (1 to 3 year olds) to the bigger group of 3 to 6 year olds, he'll be in a setting with an additional teacher who works with special needs children so he can get some 1 on 1 time. I'm a bit unsure about this because in many aspects he's so "normal" and his friend's Mum was shocked to hear he has special needs status but at the same time he does require a lot more attention than other children his age. I guess everything will become clearer as get gets older.

Sounds a lot like my son at that age! It's a tough age, especially if he is autistic because there is a lot of risk taking behaviour and lack of communication. The study that correlates vaccines with autism was very poorly done and even the researchers have admitted it wasn’t a good study. There were only 12 children in the study, some of which weren’t even autistic, and the study was entirely based on parental observations and reports. The connection between autism and vaccines that so many have was largely caused by tv propaganda from the 70s and 80s.
