Two Master Prog legends who were then trail blazers and opened the way with so much skill and virtuosity as musicians. I saw that tour a few days after this interview in Montreal at the Forum, that event changed my life forever, thanks for posting!
Waters' vocals sound too good to be true, this must have been overdubbed and/or synced to the album surely ? If not what happened to his voice between 81 and 87 when it was completely shot ?!
This is one of the best tunes ever written as well as the whole album is a grandmaster piece! This times are gone for ever. Destroyed by greedy deaf idiots and this shit producing so called make myousick business. Pissing against the wind.....
Gregg Lake once said he hated to play keyboards for the Abbadon's Bolero live because it was too complex and it was not performed well. I saw a you tube video where it took 6 musicians to recreate the Abbadon's Bolero.
This film concert should have been released in this format, it definitely increases its epicity. It would have been one of the most impressive and important filmed concerts in rock history.
They were both exhausted, Wakeman especially so. He was already complaining about the band's insistence on playing all four sides of 'Topographic' live, saying it was 'killing him'. Also, the reaction of audiences to this musical bombardment was unnerving him. He could easily see, from the stage, the boredom and restlessness on the faces of many in the crowd, the shouts of 'Roundabout!!' that echoed periodically amongst the crowd. To Wakeman, it was clear that playing the entire album live to the exclusion of all else was a mistake but, since the other members wouldn't listen, he soon quit the band.
Did anyone here ever hear Joey Diaz’s tale about the time him and his buddies went to see the Wall out on Long Island? I suggest you look it up on YT…its two parts and you will crack up.
6:50 - that'll be Steve's Bristol. No doubt Rick was nursing his wallet in Switzerland at this juncture, so might it have been Alan who set up the little synth pattern?
Great footage. I was there Feb 6th ‘78. Fourteen inch blizzard in the 518. I was in HS at the time. We took a cab from Albany & ended up stranded after the show. CDTA sent buses to get kids back to Albany. I can’t believe that was over 45 years ago. Where did the time go? Those were the days 🤘✌️
Roger waters has all the footage in this quality. He said back in 2009 he'd have it all edited together to be released to the public. I'm assuming his solo projects along with his boiling feud with gilmour have put a pause on it. It's unfortunate to think it will only be released after Waters dies, since he holds the right to it.
I went to "Their Mortal Remains" in Toronto. They show an amazingly cleaned up version of The Happiest Days of Our Lives from this performance. I'm sure they must have a complete copy of this show for release.
I was at the Garden in New York at The Wall concert in the early 80's.......they did an announcement they were recording the whole thing. I think there is more than one recording out there they should release.
