lets have a close look after a year or two of use . . . foundation was shabby, lots of excess material that wasn't keyed or laced in any fashion and even with a mix finish you're gonna have a lot of cracking maybe a good pop or two i'd bet . . .love to see a hard fire run in it after a season of weather dumps enough moisture in that to make mini bomb chambers . . . but hey, you got paid right?
Thanks for the video but you really should say where you are, what the climate is there. For instance where I live the frost level is 1.25 meters down. If I watched your video and build a foundation like that here then it would last one season before it rose up and buckled.
Did you use a set of plans or just rough estimates? I love the river stone look but would want to square it up on the top and not go for the rounded look, like on the second tier use another set of flats and just go to the top square. What was the final mortar you used inside the fire box? Also materials cost?
I made the plans and then went for it. Final mortar is a home made refractory mortar, type s, fire clay, fiberglass additive, and perlite. Perlite for flexibility when it expands and contracts and fiber for strength. Material cost for this one was around $1,500, doesn’t include the stone finish, the client already had that.
