I love this piece of music and esp with Suzanne play it. I actually saw some of her 1 to 1 lessons with junior kids and that was the reason I took up celllo and I can’t believe myself too I pick it up at 50! Now I want to find the music score for this ;)
This is a Geordie (Northumbrian refrain).. It speaks of the "waters of Tyne" which lies on the North-east coast of England, south of the Scottish border. The maid sings of her desire to meet with "her hinney" thus attempts to enlist the help of the boatman, if he can be found - she'll pay "any money" - unusual for a Geordie lass who likely had little to spend! Fortunately for her - although it may have come a little too late - eventually a ferry service was established between Jarrow and North Shields, which may even operate today as far as I am aware, not having lived there in more than forty years. The service was regular and transported workers from one side of the river to the other in that highly industrialised area - no Tyne Bridge at the time so it was a vital and much used service and, there was no need to seek the operators, they worked long hours 7 days per week, in all weathers. The history of the River Tyne is fascinating and dates to before Roman times, yet little is promoted in the media (certainly not highly vaunted by the BBC!)
Kaunista valloitit sydämmeni kuuntelisin tätä useina iltoina ennen nukkumaan menoa. Olet todella suuremmoisen klassisen musiikin eläväksi tekijä. Kiitos paljon kun valitsit tämän kauniin teoksen romanttiseen maailmaani. Asmo Karlsson längelmäki Finland. ❤
Fantastic - magnificent improvisations full of colors and singing birds. One simply wants to hear more and I will definitely buy the CD. Congratulations dear Laura and Edward !!! You are such a wonderful team with with strong artistic and imaginative powers. I really adore your interplay. Greetings from good old Berlin Andreas
Gradisco questa melodia perché,pur essendo triste, giova alla mia mente, liberandola dai pensieri negativi e mi offre una sensazione di libertà.Che strano effetto!!!
I saw Jill perform this in Howden Minster - Incredible and scintillating display of virtuosity and expression. Loved the fact that she did not speak to the audience and let her musicianship do the talking. She reminded me of Kathryn Stott in quality of performance and level, although very different in style and repertoire. I hope to see her perform again. 🌈
