Hi Heather! I just finished your children’s book class on your website and I wanted to tell you how much I loved it! Super easy to follow along, you answered all of my questions, and made me super excited to write my first book. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for years now! I wanted to say thank you!! I will send you a copy of what I end up coming up with once I’m done with it.💜
Please Heather - what brush sets did you use from Lisa Bardot? I’m taking one of her classes on SKILLSHARE, just watched a SKILLSHARE webinar about choosing the correct brush, have looked closely at the brush labels as you capture them in this video. But I can’t find them. BTW, love this video series. It is EXACTLY what I was looking for this morning. TYIA
Hi! It's been awhile since I made this video but the ones I always use from her are the kids make art brush set, specifically the colored pencil brush. Also I love Bardot Pencil Smooth and Bardot Extra Toothy, also Bardot Grainy Shader. Hope that helps!!
Thank you for this video! I read something weird about not being allowed to use the same Canva graphics in more than one product. Is that true? Would that preclude me from having the same graphic be a main character in a series?
Great video! Well explained. I am a lawyer by profession and this is exactly how I understand it. However, there are other people who publish on kdp and claim that their book got blocked for using canva elements pro. Considering that kdp hardly ever gives a straight and specific answer, I suspect that in reality it's not the use of the canva pro elements but something else. Would love your insight into this, since you're a kdp publisher.
Hi! Thanks so much! So when I have seen people's books get blocked, they were using a single Canva graphic for the entire cover, or for most of it. My suspicion is that maybe KDP does something like a reverse image search and either sees the image elsewhere on the web, OR possibly even on another book cover. I have found that if you TRULY create your own design from multiple elements (not just, oh let me add a little butterfly here so it's "technically" a unique design) then you don't get issues. Does that make sense? I'm definitely planning on creating a video about this! I hope that helps for now though!!
I downloaded the template from Amazon earlier today and suddenly there's some stupid security app (so it says), but I can't get rid of it now!😮 It keeps running and asks me to pay a subscription fee, which I can't and won't. When I tried to open the downloaded file, it doesn't do anything, so I think my laptop must have picked up a bug! Has anyone else also had this problem? I put my laptop off for 10 minutes and rebooted it again, and this stupid security app starts running again! 😠
Hi! I didn't include uploading just because the other videos in the series have it so it would be the same thing as those ones (and the video was getting so long!). If you check out the playlist for the series, you can go to the previous projects and see the uploading process: Etsy Workshop - Create Your Digital Items Etsy Shop: ru-vid.com/group/PLfwRTvxmUwGwsVevPSaU5r1LQnWfsOsJy And yes it works for all types of phones! Thank you so much for watching! Let me know if you have any other questions!! 💗
How do I include/ add, the spine to the book cover? Canva shows 2 separate pages so I don't know how, where, to add the spine. Also, I don't know how to work out the spine size for a 8.5 x 11 inches coloring book. Great tutorial. 😊
Hi! The cover isn't two pages, it is going to be a separate file. Here is my tutorial for the cover! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YOsZ8Ha7NcI.html I also sell templates on my website for the inside pages and cover with the correct bleed size and spine width etc just in case you're interested!

Hi, I would like to publish a book on Amazon about my clay crafts and I want the photos to be of high quality. Should I change the format of the photos to CMYK before inserting them into the Word document that I will convert to PDF before publishing? The Amazon guide only suggests using CMYK format for the book cover, but does not specify the format of the rest of the images. And another question, the Amazon guide says that the images have to be between 300 and 450 dpi. However, my photos are of much higher quality. Do I have to convert each image to 450 dpi? If so, do you know what program I could use to do this and not keep the rights to my images? I would really appreciate your help
You can do CMYK but Amazon actually also accepts sRGB and they are pretty good at getting the colors right for that. You are probably ok either way. For the DPI, you can just use them in whatever DPI you already have. Then when you export it as a PDF, it will convert it to a lower resolution for you. Personally I wouldn't use Word to lay out a book like the one you are doing. It is really not a great layout program. I recommend Canva or Photoshop.

Hi there… this is so stinking cute and creative! You’re such an amazing aunt btw! I’m inspired to share this activity with my class. Now that your nephew is older, does he still remember this?
Aww thank you!! Yes he does still remember it! Every once in awhile I ask him, hey remember the flat Stanley? He also remembers that he used to ask me to sing the 7's song over and over and over again 😂
Heather, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you! I have been in the process of creating my very first children's book using both Canva and a professional illustrator, and I have had so many hiccups along the way. Every time I ran into an issue, you had a video to fix it. I finally submitted it to Ingram and I couldn't have done it without you!
It's just saying that it doesn't recognize it, but if you know the program is from a trusted source (which it is) then you can override that. Just don't install programs from shady websites. Only legit ones.
Your videos are helpful, I have just starting using Procreate. What if you drawing only one page 8.375" x 8.5" for practice what would be the the Grid size?
Hi! I have a video for that, it is the previous one in the series! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9pq9X0zLcvc.html But basically the bleed guides will be the same, they will all be .125 in from the outer edges.
When you see all the colors there to choose from, look for the color circle that looks like it's rainbow colored, and click on that. Then you should get the eye dropper.
You forgot to mention that IngramSpark has a wider distribution that can be leveraged to generate more sales - which can lead to greater revenue stream. I hear that this requires active marketing.
