First trip to the range I shot 50+ mixed rounds, including 00 buck, slugs, and #4 (all 2-3/4" not 3"). A couple failure to feeds, but the more I shot the better it fed. Overall I was satisfied with the gun, considering the under $300 price tag. HOWEVER... . Then I noticed the muzzle brake was loose and the fore-end retaining nut was bent outward like a Pringles potato chip. Muzzle brake would no longer engage the divots in the nut, so the fore-end was loose. That put a stop to my range day. . Called Legacy Sports (the US importer) and described the problem. They wanted me to send them the shotgun for repairs, but they admitted they didn't have any parts to make any repairs. So I declined their offer to have my gun sitting in their shop for who-knows-how-long. They said that because the gun was so new, parts had not been received. Hmmm. . I'll report back when I hear from Legacy.
I put in some inquiries today, and the word came back that they now expect to start shipping in Q4. But take that with a grain of salt. I was told not to be surprised if it drags into next year before I have my greedy hands on one.
I've got the Chiappa Badger in 22LR, it's such a cool wee beginner/backpack plinker. Never underestimate the public's desire for a takedown rifle. I'm in Canada & don't want the people in my building to know I even have rifles, so takedowns are priority. I'm always going back & forth with electric guitars - and I swear I could safely fit at least 4 Badgers in one Stratocaster hard case if I wanted to - maybe more! Being discrete is easy with takedowns. Happy to see Chappa throwing their hat in the ring with larger calibers. The Marlin Dark is similar to the Chiappa, but good luck finding one & it's not in Takedown. Same goes for the Browning BLR '81 Takedown, which I'm told could be up to a year before I can get one.
