I didn’t really think about it until this until now. But, I think it might have been this moment that cemented A-Train’s true change of heart. Everyone around him either hates him or is using him. His brother hates him. Homelander & MM use him for their own purposes, despite not really caring for him. They’ll say/do whatever they need to him to make him do what they want. But not Hughie. Hughie was completely honest with him. A-Train did right by Hughie despite believing that Hughie wouldn’t forgive him, and guess what? He was wrong. In a good way. His constant effort to change & become better was rewarded by the one person who he thought could never forgive him. And if Hughie can forgive him, maybe his brother can too. This moment was the reason he saved MM at the mansion. And guess what? He was rewarded again. The look on the kid’s face showed him what he could be. If Hughie doesn’t forgive him and do so with complete honesty in this moment, A-Train doesn’t truly change. MM dies. Janine loses her father and A-Train never realises that being better is just a choice away.
We all rejoice at the one who finds the path to redemption even more so than the ones who are already righteous. It feels so good seeing A-Train’s journey to being an actual hero
You know I know they’re gonna kill him but man it would be nice if he survived cause he could be the change people need to see to wake up but I don’t think anyone’s getting a “good” ending.
