I love the timber frame construction of your shack - beautiful! I am looking at building something similar. Did you work off of a specific plan? Thanks!
The worst part of the build. Concrete! Digging! Laying Crush Stone! That is a cool mixer. How many batches did it take? Did you mix any aggregate into the mix or just sand?
Mixer is a one bag mixer. So it was one bag of Portland, 5 gal of water, 50 shovel scoops of concrete aggregate. (Gravel/sand mix) we used 16 bags of Portland so 16 batches.
Love this build. What evaporator did you use? Make and size? What is the size of this shack? Are you going to use a head tank for the evaporator? Cant wait to see this thing fire up.
Our evaporator is a dominion and Grimm 18x63. The shack is 12’x14’. Yes we are going to put an IBC tote outside behind the shack and plumb a line through the wall to the float box. All our gravity lines feed into our tote. Thanks, new videos of the up coming season soon.
Sounds great! I was reading up on dominion and Grimm today. I am in the process of moving to Vermont. My land is a sugar bush of 50 acres. I am quite a machinist and fabricator and may build my own. Not happy with CDL or Leader designs. I saw an old Smith Bros that I liked. But they are gone. The Grimm design seems to be one of the better new designs that still has heritage. How many taps are you running
@@devmeistersuperprecision4155 ya we got our evaporator used last year. This will be our first year with it. We are thinking somewhere between 150-180 .
Curious question what did you use for chimney pipe going through your metal roof? I’m going to be setting mine up shortly. And I did not know what I needed to use to go through on the roof. I have a metal roof with 2 foot on center rafters. I didn’t know if I needed to use the expensive double or triple wall pipe or just standard black stove pipe.
Yes I believe mine is 2”. It is insulted pipe. I would go insulated pipe going through the roof. It’s safer as your chimney is going to get super hot. I’m not going to tell you how to do yours because I don’t know what your shack looks like or the codes in your area. But I have single wall then double wall insulated where it goes through the roof .
So, we are a small 30ish tap, father and daughter maple team. Have been using a 55gal drum evaporator. Just bought a 2‘ x 3‘ real evaporator this year. So I figured I would build a small sugar shack. I have no idea how big it needs to be. I basically just want to keep the cold and rain off of us. To make it a little more fun, Also, do you keep all of your gear in there as well your buckets etc. Thanks again for the great videos. I look forward to the next. Fred
Thanks Fred . Build it as big or as small as you want. Yes we are going to put a little loft in the front above the door when you walk it. To store things or sleep in it. I will post more videos this season.
Great, thanks. It’s only couple hundred feet from my house, I was thinking like an 8 x 12 would be sufficient enough to put a table and a couple chairs. Thanks again
I've enjoyed watching your build progress. I grew up in a family that produced maple syrup, mostly just for personal use. Brought back a lot of fond memories. Thank you.
New to the channel. You have done a great job on the framing your sugar shack . Looks amazing. We hit the like button and subscribe too have a great day
Thanks a lot ! I’ll be sure to check out your channel . Actually I just checked out my video history and I’ve watched a couple videos of yours in the past haha
Great video! Realy Awesome project. the sugar shack would make a Awesome tiny home or a Great hunting cabin. i just subscribed to your channel and i also hit the bell thing too. i Realy look forward to watching more of your videos. :)
Thanks for the comment. The deer hunting is very good where our shack is so we might use it for hunting. Also an overnight cabin to do some camping with the kids . Thanks for subscribing and like.
Ya I just made a homemade sheath out of cardboard wrapped in gorilla tape . Works perfect . The Simmons GEN II skis are amazing, they track straight with no darting like the skidoo skis . They are also great for breaking trail, 10” wide and dual carbides can turn on a dime.
@@NorthernOntarioOutdoors I put the skins on my DS2'S. Floatation is amazing but they're super darty. I may try a different runner on mine, since I've already spent the money on the skins.
@@NorthernOntarioOutdoors totally! I have yet to land a fish on a tip up cause I’m new to ice fishing as of this year- but it just hasn’t been appealing to hand line a fish in. Way rather use a rod.
@@NorthernOntarioOutdoors absolutely! I’m definitely going to give this a go. My last ice fishing trip will be out tomorrow.. so I’ve gotta try it! If I can find a good tree branch 😅
