I saw many, many people play the Phantom from its inception. PK remains the most dynamic, sensual, maniacal, & unique performance of Erik. There’s a reason he was twice voted the world Best Phantom. He simply is the definitive Phantom.
The Polish production is one of the few in the world where the title song is always sung live 🔥 My favorite Christine from the Polish cast is Edyta Krzemień ❤ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OO-W0A3W8Tg.html
59:39 sorry I’m ranting but this is SOO cool!!! The fire works and the exterior set pieces coming on make the show feel so rich and gives such cool spectacle effects that you kinda need if you’re gonna bring a show to Vegas!
49:48 the fact that it is the actual actor and not a doll is so haunting and really makes up for the chandelier crash happening at the end of the show.
Is there anyway I could make and add subtitles to the video? It's a bit hard to understand what they are saying sometimes and wanted to offer some help if I could.
One thing I will say about Michael Crawford…no one does GHOSTLY and HAUNTING quite like him. I can absolutely believe Christine would believe he was an Angel very easily, as there has always been something very otherworldly about his Phantom, I feel.
I remember seeing the OBC with both, Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman about a month after it had opened. Everyone was dressed to the nines (me in a tux), and I sat in the highest seat in the last row of the balcony, next to the wall (the ticket was $50 at that time)... I've seen it several times since. It will forever be in my memories. Thanks for putting this on!
beautiful your 1985 music "restoration" (specially the intro). can you made the same one with "what time has done to me" (think of me) - titular song and the all i ask of you with the final music (reprise by Colm Wilkinson). pls
“Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys”That graveyard clip is really something. A really stunning rendition of that duet here. Teri Bibb is terrific as Christine.
The first time I heard his Laugh during a clip of Graveyard had me Grin so big!!!!!!! So glad I found audio of this again yrs later!!!!!!! I played audio that I had of just Wandering Child for Friends yrs ago & they LUV’D his Laugh!! Never another Original OG!!

Any audio recordings of Sarah as Christine are rare. The final performance is pretty much impossible to get anywhere. As for Michael and his last show in Los Angeles, I have one recording, but it is of quite poor quality.
Honestly, if they want to revive the Phantom for Broadway, they should just revise this version. I’d keep the same scenic design and keep it 90 minutes no intermission. It was the first time I saw Phantom (I was 7 at the time and my Mom worked at the Venetian and got free tickets). I saw it until it closed. To me, it is the DEFINITIVE Phantom. The shortened time doesn’t take alot from the show.
Thanks so much for this. I've always had some interest in this but the lack of a video of the original Phantom - whose voice I love - really put me off. The singing is great but something like this demands visuals to go with it, especially that ending which, upon seeing this, made me tear up. And so to have Crawford's unmatched voice + seeing everything is a dream come true for somebody who was just born at the end of 1988. Thanks again.
I saw the Broadway production six times. The second night (day after premiere ) with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Then three more with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman and the final two with others in the leads, and a much smaller cast. The show with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman was the greatest production I have ever seen. Both Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman were unequaled in their performances. I will never forget them.
Correct me if I am wrong but did Rebecca Caine start her run in the role of Christine as an understudy for Sarah Brightman? I had the joy of seeing Rebecca twice in Toronto in the Canadian cast in the early 1990's..
This production gave me chills down my back when I heard the Phantom's voice for the first time.. in "Angel of Music.." The same chills I had as a boy in 1991 in Toronto watching the Canadian Cast.. Thankyou for wonderful memories brought back! I had no trouble translating the German lyrics to English as watched...!
