For over 25 years, Val and Amy Castor have been StormTrackers for KWTV NEWS 9 in Oklahoma City, OK and are dedicated to serving Oklahomans with up-to-the-minute information about severe weather threatening the state. Val started chasing in the late 1980's and after getting his meteorology degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1991, he landed a job at KWTV as Chief Meteorologist Gary England's first storm chaser ever hired by a television station. Amy became Val's storm chasing partner in 1998 and they were married a year later, just one month after chasing the deadly F5 tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma on May 3, 1999. Together they provide coverage on tornadoes, wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, ice storms, and blizzards.
I've been watching a lot of videos of this particular tornado, and I don't think I have ever seen a wedge this size spin as fast as this one was spinning. Reminds me of a big cement truck when the operator is trying to get the right consistency before pouring and the mixer is spinning so hard that the truck begins to rock. Incredible storm!
This camera is a game changer guys! I was actually thinking of this exact thing in the winter time after learning that night vision helps you see billions of more stars . The milky way is as bright as ever. And it got me asking, how come all of our chasers dont use night Vision, and even thermal vision I think could be very helpful. We may learn something brand new. But also, im trying to find a decent cheap night vision monocular or something for my own family's safety with all these night time tornados we keep getting. And i wonder if it can some day be an affordable must have storm survivial tool for everyone just like radar and coverage on our phones and weather radios are a must have today. I don't like having to count on lightning strikes to see a tornado.
One follow up question. When lightning strikes frequently and close by in the night vision camera, does it just make the whole screen go white too much?
These videos have caused the severe intoxication of many college students. Can you imagine having to take a shot every time Gary England's name is said? I would be done within 2 minutes. Yes! It is a real drinking game.
I remember watching this live stream and then this video clip over and over since last year when this happened in Matador Texas and I know they rated it EF3 but I still really believe there’s no doubt this Tornado was much much stronger than that and some of the worst damage I’ve seen done to properties and trees and vehicles... I still wonder to this day how the older fellow and his dog are doing, that you y’all went and took care of when his wife passed away because of the tornado hitting their home 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Turn your god damn windshield wipers off my goodness. I understand the excitement but Jesus think of the content your putting out. Gary ummm Gary, Gary, are u there Gary, Gary u gotta get me on Gary, Gary, hey Gary, Gary we have damage. Gary its at least an F3. Gary its a wedge Gary. Gary Gary Gary its getting bigger my wife said. Its doing lots of damage Gary, its a half inch wider Gary. Gary it's not lifting. We now have 2 on the ground Gary, Gary. Hey Gary the big one is getting bigger Gary, Gary idk Gary but Gary i will tell you my windshield wipers are about to rocket off my truck due to no rain at full speed Gary. My freakin goodness. I can't take anymore. I had to mute. Jesus!!
There’s always someone yelling with an annoying voice “Tornado on the ground! Tornado on the ground! Tornado on the ground!” Like Gomer Pyle yelling”Citizen’s arrest! Citizen’s arrest!” Lol 😊
1:56 Tornado isn't moving, its sitting and getting bigger.................... Um, pretty sure it might be headed in your direction! Great footage, thank you for sharing. Be Safe out there
Amazing video! This is how storm chasing should be done. You were at a safe distance, but close enough to get a lot of detail in your video. It was fascinating to watch how those smaller vortices form and disappear within seconds. Thank you for sharing. Well done!
I've seen more videos of multi vortex tornadoes this season than I ever recall seeing before. Is that because there are more chasers out recording them now, or is it because there are more of them than usual? I'm not experienced or educated enough about them to know.
This video turned out great, "you weren't yelling or screaming blah blah" just kidding. you BOTH have been among some of the best chasers for well over 25 years now so keep up the good work Val and Amy!
Who panicked at 5:30? Val--"When you see me leave, its time to leave" "We gotta go, go now!" Val--A faint audible laugh 😅 I don't blame the guy, but the longtime veteran tracker Val Castor is absolutely one of the best.
