A bit weird, a bit handsome.. With more than a decade in Japan with camera in hand I have seen so much I want to share. Yet in many ways it feels like only now I have finally arrived. Come along for the ride as I revisit the best, and find the rest of Japan!!
I appreciate the comment. There was allot of background noise which I tried to clean up. Just to clarify, does the audio level sound low to you, or are you referring to low frequency?
@@marcodimartino2810 Okay thanks, I think a bit of it is also the mic is too far away. Was trying to keep it just out of shot, but will bring it in next time. I have a very good lavier I used to use, but I lost the power module during a mountain adventure.
The full Tmidd shoutout was "Go Watch Tmidd.. Not electrical engineering content, but sparks are flying".. Subs got messed up... doesn't really matter, but sorta didn't make sense.. either way, go watch TMIDD !
Wow! Melu has a great personality and good looks too ❤❤ Great content with a much needed relaxed and genuine vibe. Subscribed and looking forward to your future content!
Yes, it's always strange to me how that works. Made in Japan, but delayed in Japan. Though, now that I think about it, not sure if the country of origin (manufacture) has been confirmed for this lens yet. Sure hope it's made in Japan like the 250mm.
@@filmstudiojapan 100% - as a fashion and portrait shooter = pro for 35years - I spent an entire decade shooting on the legendary Mamiya RZ for magazines and catalogues and coupled with the RZ500 it was fab for full length - the fall off at both the front and the back was outstanding - whilst this is longer than that lens it will be a stunner for so much including landscapes and non fast action sports - Dressage for example!!!
Thanks for your question. One of the lenses in this video is F/1.2. However on the GFX sensor there is a reverse crop of .79, which also affects depth of field. So, 1.2x 0.79 GFX crop factor = F/0.948 to be exact. This is depth of field only though, as the light transmission level remains the same.
Thanks for your kind words! That shallowness combined with no AF on the two Mitakons make them a challenge, and you can see in my video though globally the images on the 85mm (which are the majority of the images in this video) look nice, focus is not always perfect. I think the 63mm 2.8 would be a great choice as it's simply going to give you a higher keeper rate, there will be plenty of separation/bokeh and images should be quite nice. I just finished shooting a video with this same model (Melu) comparing the 85mm 1.2 Mitakon against the GF-45-100mm F4 and it may surprise some how well even an F4 lens can do with portraits.
Good review and I respect your POV. But here’s mine now. I’m one of the “idiots” who’s bought the lens. 1. You’re mistaken about the weight. Yes, it is only 300g lighter, but I’m sure by now you would’ve held it and realised how much more balanced it is compared to the 200-400 which is very front heavy. I can shoot handheld easily without having those aches and pains you described. 2. For some of us, we know how to handle our gear. Just because we are not “professionals” and have another day job, it should not disqualify us from getting the lens and creating images which we can be proud of. It really doesn’t matter to us what “professionals” like you think, really, but you don’t see any of us making a whole lengthy RU-vid video to lament about it. 3. If some of us do have the means, then really the question should not be why, but rather why not. We are not hurting anyone by buying this lens, and neither should anyone do the same should we buy one. 4. The bag that the lens came with, is just fine for me, in spite of the complaint that it only has one should strap. These days, most camera bag makers make sling-type bags, some which carry loads upto 5-7kgs. The bags sell very well, and no one actually complains, so why is a sling bag inferior is it is to carry something lesser than 4kg’s? 5. Perhaps when u did this video, the Z8 had not been released. But now we all know how capable this camera is. It’s literally a shrunken down Z8. And pair this with the new 400, and its less than 4kgs. That’s a pretty manageable and nimble set-up if you ask me. And definitely not one which only “Pros” can handle.
Hi, sorry for the late reply, and thanks for your comment. I do have a couple videos with results from the 400mm F/2.8. As with most modern lenses it is more balanced, but shooting long term the weight is definitely noticed for me personally. I don't believe I was saying the lens is only for professionals, but making a point that for many it is not the most practical lens. Camera companies have recently figured out how youtube works, and have been promoting their products relentlessly to many who have little experience, but are easily led to believe they need the best of everything to be taken seriously as a photographer/content creator/videographer etc.. My video is simply an attempt to dispel this constant bombardment of ads in the guise of helpful reviews. As for using the sling bag to carry this lens for extended outings, it's not for me. The Z8 is lighter, but I would not call it nimble. I shoot with a GFX which is a heavier body, but still.. to me nimble is a Z6 or lighter weight cameras.
Thanks for the video. I really like your informal approach as well your interaction with the model. It’s great that you took the time to introduce her and share her social media contacts in the text. Nice photos too!
I hear what you’re saying but if you’re going to tell people they can get good quality from cheaper cameras, you should demonstrate that ability by producing a video where you’re in focus and your audio is actually good.
People only have to click my latest video to see I am a capable photographer. Frankly I don't care much about "youtube standards", though I hear what you're saying as well, but my schedule is such that I have to sometimes choose to post as is if I want to get a message through in a timely fashion. It was raining hard, and I was testing a manual lens with very shallow DOF to see if I could get away with it wide open. Obviously not.
So it is, yeah really the best bargain out there. Just now checked some used prices in Japan, and the US equiv is $400 for very nice bodies with all accessories, box, etc.. Honestly may just pick one up for those days I feel like getting up close to the surf line, hanging a camera over a bridge, etc... If you're rocking this camera I'd love t o hear your likes dislikes, namely AF for birds, and is the 1080p useable or a jagged moire mess?
I don't believe there will be an issue with getting Z8 like the Z9. Anyone that wants to get one will be able to get one, if not, this means the demand is even higher than the level Nikon expected over the Z9. Which would be good for all.
For anyone that enjoyed this and is waiting on another... it is coming very soon. My life went from 0 to 60 in regards to working pretty much overnight about a month ago.. and I'm just now starting to balance things out and figuring out which days I can sacrifice sleep and do these..
Let me be the first to say, I am highly aware of the audio issue. I believe I went a bit too aggressive on settings to reduce noise. I will leave this one up, but will do my best to get another tutorial with better audio up soon! Streaming is still pretty new to me, so please bare with me as I hit the bumps in the road.
Hi...recently I got this battery grip...while using it, the shutter was not released in the time of battery A drain...it was not shifting to Battery B...why it's so...is there any settings to be changed...?
I would try to use another battery firstly to be sure it isn't a fault with the batteries. Assuming you are using official Nikon Batteries or reputable third party batteries, and assuming the problem is not faulty batteries (I've had faulty Nikon Batteries), you may have a defective grip, and I would contact your place of purchase or Vello for an exchange.
Why do you call it a "Handle"??? It is a tripod mount designed to help balance the weight of the camera and lens over the tripod. In no way is it designed to be a handle. Or are you joking?
Because I am a professional photographer who walks through nature and knows the reality of how a lens like this must be handled when walking for long distances looking for birds and such. There is a reason the already available third party arca swiss plate version has more space for fingers.. there is a reason when I show this finger space to other professionals in the field they all laugh and call it unacceptable. Professionals in the field will use whatever little stump lens manufacturers provide until better options are available. Fujifilm knows this.
@@filmstudiojapan Okay, it is fair to say that "if you intend to use the tripod mount as a carrying handle - it does not work well". But it is another thing to call it a handle, when Fujifilm did not design it for that. I am a professional too, but I don't carry my lenses by the tripod mount - that is your "off-label" use of the device. I applaud you for asking Fujifilm to make it a useful carrying handle. But declaring it a bad handle, when it is not a handle, makes the title of your video deceptive.

@@GrenlandUnderVann Well the G9 is the most popular panasonic camera for Birding and general natural world photography basically since its release and will likely be the first micro four thirds from Panasonic with phase detect. It is a bit heavy for a typical vlogging camera but it can be done. I think you may be thinking of the G99, ie the G6, G7, G8 series..?
There's a learning curve involved (and I am still learning), but I know you'll do wonders with one. Especially if you can manage to pair it with that 110 F2, or 80 1.7.
@@TMIDD The 110 is really the TMIDD lens in my opinion. It is optically perfect, and I have seen some crazy results, and even played with other peoples raw files from that lens. This guy has a pretty entertaining practical take on the 110 vs 80 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--mBfmH9kWd8.html He also has another video with virtually every lens.
Amazing, my friends! The scene is so pretty, and the harmonica is really beautiful. I love your singing, too, it has a melodic undercurrent that Dylan never achieved. I also play folk music on my channel, and I love finding great covers like yours. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm honored to sub :)
A year late, but thanks for the comment. I am just the cameraman however, Yasushi Isaka and Soh Naraba can be found though if your looking for more content from them. They are both very talented indeed, and I am sure they would appreciate your words.
