I have had to do this to my Siemens dishwasher at least once a year for 20 years. My model has the leakproof system pipes which switch off the water supply if a leak is detected. When the float chamber starts to get dirty, you can hear the water supply switching on and off about once per second as the float sticks which can rattle the pipework. That's the first sign that it all needs cleaning. I have tried all sorts of drain arrangements and have never been able to prevent it from doing this on a regular basis. I suspect it is because we have the hefty stainless steel stand alone model with the heat exchanger. The left side is against a kitchen unit and is always warm and moist so mould can easily build up quickly. i always remove the float chamber, dismantle it and clean everything thoroughly. That way, it will last about a year, rather than nine months. I would also recommend cleaning the corrugated pipe which leads from the bottom of the float chamber to the pump. It can get very clogged. If it wasn't for the fact that it looks better than anything other dishwasher i have ever seen , is still very economical (even by todays standards) and washes well when working, i would have replaced it years ago.
Thank you. Saved me a lot of money. Mine was dirty float, I disassembled it, pulled out the float cup, flushed out the gunk, scrubbed it all with a toothbrush, reassembled and boom - fixed! Thank you again!
What does "rinse with hot soda mix" refer to? Am I posed to microwave some Coke? I know that works wonders on battery terminals so is that what I'm posed to do here? Or are you talking about mixing baking soda into hot water???
