Since its foundation in 1768, the publishing house of John Murray has innovated and fostered genius, and at all times been unashamedly populist.
From selling volumes of Byron to massed crowds from the window of the old Albemarle Street offices to making John Betjeman the nation's favourite poet, John Murray has always published great writing for a wide audience of readers.
From the invention of the travel guidebook and the self-help book, to the very first TV tie-in, innovation and flair have been central to the Murray approach.
From On the Origin of Species to A Million Little Pieces, controversy, dissent and debate have been encouraged and fostered.
In the best Murray tradition, our current publishing represents quality and populism: exciting fiction, absorbing memoirs, authoritative history, provocative current affairs and unique gift and humour books.
Oh my God, turn down that music!!!!!!! It's so damn loud that I can't here Debo speak!!!!! JOHN MURRAY BROOKS - please re-make this video without the ridiculous music. THUMBS DOWN on this video due to the ridiculously LOUD MUSIC.
I bought a copy of this extraordinary book. Full of sweet and not so sweet memories and opinions on Nick. Gorgeous photos. Lovely tributes. Very moving. NICK was well loved and thought of, but it's very sad to read how his depression and mental health deteriorated...so badly resulting in that fateful overdose. His parents were amazingly supportive and always there for him. Of course, Nick's music and songs speak for themselves. Timeless, elegant, classy, melancholic and atmospheric!!! R.I.P NICK DRAKE Hope you're flying free of sadness and pain ❤
They were not horrific at all, they opposed Britains involvement in WW2 and feared we would lose the Empire as a result. We did lose the Empire and were stuck with rationing until the early 50’s. Germany soon built itself up again and we remained in the doldrums and still are.Who was right?.
Sounds Munster to me, though, probably the words are caighdeán or standard Irish. E. g. Ansin while standard would be ansan in Munster. Pronunciation is Munster. Déan wouldn't be dane but closer to Jane in other dialects.
I think JOHN MURRAY BROOKS might be deaf, if he thinks anyone can hear what she's saying. The music is LOUDER than her voice. This video is a GREAT DISSERVICE to this wonderful lady.
I loved this book and highly recommend it to all. Trevor takes us on an whirlwind adventure during Apartheid era in South Africa, where his birth was evidence of a crime committed by his parents who had a forbidden, interracial relationship. He and his parents had to « hide in plain sight » in order to escape prison and Trevor being sent away to live in an orphanage. Although parts of it are LOL funny, other parts of it may be too intense for very young readers, so there is also a young person’s edition. I especially loved the Audible version since it’s read by Trevor. I listened to the Audible version with my kids and the discussions which followed each chapter were enlightening and educational.
