Retired after thirty six years in law enforcement where I was a K-9 officer,field training officer, police information officer, school resource officer, and a firearms instructor. Out of all my titles being a K-9 officer and a firearms instructor were my favorite jobs. My expertise in firearms is accuracy shooting and combat competition shooting. I like teaching someone to shoot that’s never been properly trained, that way they can see the difference in their accuracy when they are finished. My true passion is my family, dogs,(and cat) my hobbies. Just in that order!

@@C_Franc2000 it usually takes about one hour to complete the charge, so the red light is not really a problem. I guess I can always test the battery if I think it’s not getting a full charge.
@@EverybodySecretlyLovesSteve I was telling you this, because I have another similar model, and when charging for 4 hours, the red light turns off correctly, indicating full charge. That's why I asked you, if you could tell me where the fault could be or what component is failing, why is the red light not going off, and indicating the end of charge?
@@C_Franc2000 You may have a battery that needs to be replaced. Some batteries will develop a memory problem and will never charge properly. As you know, I had to bypass my charge light because it had a broken lead, and wouldn’t allow the battery to charge. In your case I believe the battery has a faulty memory.
Great video. You made it clear from the jump that it would be a quick 5 minute repair as opposed to a 5-hour repair (removing trim, hatch, who-knows-what). Try your local dealer next time. They’re not always the cheapest, but they are often times quite knowledgeable. For those reading, the amazon equivalent part did not match. It was cut differently. The toyota dealer part reigns supreme for this job. I am planning to replace the brake master cylinder assembly on my 2011. Any video pointers are appreciated.
@@t5198 I found out that on some Toyota models that the break systems has to be replaced with some kind of tool because of something in the system. A friend of mine compressed the break calipers on his 2013 4 Runner and broke something in the systems that cost him a lot of money to replace it. He is going one of those people like me, if I can fix it I will ! Be sure that you don’t have that system first. If I’m not mistaken it had to do with the calipers being compressed at the same time and at a certain rate. I’m going to do a video on the sunroof soon that will surprise everyone that has one. It takes about 15 minutes to do and will save you a lot of headaches. Thanks for your input! 👍
15:15 going to explain the limitation of all flail mowers and brush hogs with swing tip blades...... they give way to resistance, the more resitance the more they give way and skip over rather than cut. this means you are either going to fast or chopping wood. by chopping wood i mean you let plants grow too long they became so thick you might as well call them brush because their stems got that thick. sometimes you can run, some times you have to crawl, and other times you have to creep....others you just walk speed. density and length physics. try running thru a hayfield, then try running thru pricker brush..... then you will understand, no pain, no gain.
Well I was cutting my field of grass and not brush, but your wisdom of folly intrigues me. The simple fact is that my tractor is better off with standard blades, but thanks for the wisdom.
Wow what a bad design, cantilevering that big bracket so far off of what’s probably a die cast valve cover! No doubt when you’ve worked on one of these, there are cracker-jack degreed engineers and designers behind such nonsense. My older 1026R mounts the air-filter case to the front bulkhead using a much more elegant steel hoop. Not connected to the valve cover. The three bosses exist in the valve cover but are unused, no threaded studs.
It’s a 2018 model, my understanding is that it was changed in 2019 models. And no John Deere would not admit that there was a problem with that model design. They blamed it on the engine design, which is Yanmar.
Yes, thanks for asking! I was in an accident a few years ago and damaged my lungs from a car fire and sometimes I get out of breath when I overheat myself.
Sounds like it's just the wrong tool for the job you're using it for. A finishing mower, like you have, is for mowing maintained pastures or lawn --not clearing brush, tall grass, and hay fields. You'd likely be better served by a rough-cut or brush mower for those jobs. The Meg-Mow and Cutlass style blades are meant for finish mowing: cutting maintained grass efficiently.
I just wanted to see if they would work better than standard blades, and I got my answer, but however they were fantastic for chopping up leaves and that’s what I’m going to use them for.
Mine came damaged as well. But home Depot and MTD made it right. Home Depot took quite a chunk off the price and MTD sent me all damaged parts free of charge. Personally I love the mustang it is as you say rough to get in gear but I found if you bump the cable handle it goes smooth. I bought a champion tiller first what a joke it quit mid till called champion they said we will walk you through fixing it. Nope not paying a premium price to have to work on a product took it back and ordered the mustang and never looked back.
I agree, but the JD dealership I got it from went out of business. The new dealership refused, and said that they were not aware of any issues with the 1025R.
Thanks for making this video. Not too many folks sharing their thoughts on this model. I just picked up a Mustang that was barely used for a decent $ based on how much they are new. The gentleman I got it from said it was too much machine for his compact garden. My thoughts are it seems like a good machine, it’s big no doubt and it tills with ease plenty of power. You don’t need to run at full speed low to mid speed worked good for me. Not nimble enough for small garden beds but will shine in larger gardens with long runs. In the limited amount of reviews on the Mustang, one major complaint was finding and engaging the correct gear selection. On mine the selection pointer was way off confusing me at first. Since there was no alignment adjustment to correct this, I had to remove and reinstall the sticker to correspond with the pointer. Now gear selection makes sense. I’m with you that it would be nice to have throttle control at the handle. Wonder if there is an upgrade throttle control kit to change it? Happy tilling!
You should get the new bracket, just to keep it from shaking the filter during run time. The intake is not strong enough to withstand the weight of the filter by itself. Take my advice, that intake is paper thin.
@MrBritrider my garden is 25’x 60’, and I put an additional 20’x 20’ for melons. I found that I would count the notches on shifting without looking at the sticker, just as long as I get it in the vicinity. I always till in the reverse mode on broken ground. I only use the front till mode on slow speed when breaking new ground. Im considering doubling the size of the garden next year because it has been easier for me to maintain it. I have adjusted the engagement handle to the very end to get a better grip, and I would like it to have a longer adjustment for a tighter grip. Other than that I’m happy with it.
The GTO was the first car that I ever restored, and I have regretted selling it ever since. It was the first car that I remember growing up in the sixties and I thought it was the meanest looking car ever. To this day I would take one over a new car of any kind.
Thanks for the heads up. The band that holds the air filter housing to the bracket took a powder a few years ago I've just let it float there since. Next oil change I guess I'll pull the air filter housing and have a look at the cover..
Just wanted to comment, Iv'e been running equipment since I was 8 (52 now) and knowing your machine will say you all sorts of problems. Weird new sounds, smells, or vibrations are a definite reason to stop and look. I own a 1025 R and I do all my own services and maintenance. That way the only one I can blame is me if it is not done right.
Speaking for myself I don’t think it’s possible. The bracket was so heavy, and the cover that it’s mounted on is too thin to withstand the weight for a long period of time.
WOW! I am looking at a 2017 1025r , I know the man and know he is one to take care of his stuff. Tractor has 250 hours on it. when I go to look at it, I'll be sure to check this out on it, I'll be surprised if he don't about this issue. Happy you caught it in time! John Deere should of made it right with you!
If you look at the bottom of your dipstick tube you should see a plug. I’m going to try adding an extension pipe to mine to make it easier to drain. Hope this helps!
Mine is a 2018 model, I’m not sure what year models are effectived. If your air filter is mounted on top of the motor by three studs, I would look at replacing it to the one that is mounted to the front behind the radiator. I believe that type of filter is on the 1023,1025, and the 1035 models. I don’t know what year they changed it.
You should have someone else look into it for you, I’m not qualified enough to know what to do about that kind of work. I was goofing around and thought I would see if I could get it to work. When I shocked myself it hurt, and I felt it the rest of that day.
After all this I was surprised that it turned out to be very accurate. I think it was a 3/32 Allan wrench that I cut off and used it as a wedge against the sight. My son-in-law used it squirrel hunting and said it was silent and deadly.
I had a rattle and noticed two of the 3 nuts holding the bracket were loose so I tightened them about a week ago. A short time before I would get a rough start now and then. Started looking around online and found this. Took my air cleaner off and found the bracket had broken. Valve cover looks OK but will clean it and check for any cracks. Bought the replacement parts from my local dealer. Really pisses my off Deere will not cover the cost. Say the PIP expired. I wonder if 'fix on fail' would cover it if I show them the broken bracket?
I don’t know, but it’s worth checking out. I have only found one other person that lost a motor because the air filter bracket broke off and went into the motor, and Deere replaced the motor. I’m learning that it was a poor design and I don’t know if it’s a Deere problem or a Yanmar problem, but poor design none the less! The rough start up was explained to me as a typical Yanmar three cylinder engine, and the really hard start up could be the fuel filter needs replacing. You’ll have one next to the engine, under the floor, and a screen filter in your fuel tank. Good luck my friend!
@@EverybodySecretlyLovesSteve I have replaced the primary fuel filter (runs better) but still have a rough start 'sometimes'. Going to replace the inline one today. Pulled the valve cover and found stress lines so will replace that also. Do you happen to know the torque specs for the cover?
@jimkramer4001 what I found 11 inch pounds, and I used a small amount of the blue lock tight. I went back after and checked them after running it around 8 hours and everything seemed okay.
I have a 1025r 2018 model year. John Deere update my air cleaner for nothing before anything broke. Also replaced PTO switch at same time. Said they were a recall item also.
I’ve had some trouble on mine also, thinking about a bypass on it so I don’t have anymore problems with it. I had to leave it in the rain one day and put it away in my barn. The switch rusted up and wouldn’t work. I sprayed some WD40 on it and it been working ever since. The next time it gets bypassed.
