You BLOOGs don't know how to set an Imperial up at all do ya .. In The States we would've killed everyone in all of the other cars . 64 -73 Imperial 04 Crown Vic will destroy anything you Reds Have.
So true, good sportsmanship in rare. A simple handshake goes a long was. We can be as tough as it gets gut still remind Tge drivers n fans its a shoo not a bloodsport !!
How do you build a proper banger with reusible key parts; ie coolind tsnks impact dars etc. We race "?trash cars" in west coast ans thw key equilpmnt abbs up. The cars cooling is the first ti go and its all dowm hill fron there as you knaw
Gotta laugh at the thought of Americans looking up "Chrysler Imperial" then coming across this video and thinking "what is this absolutely insane shit!?". They probably can't fathom racing where cars actually try to hit/crash/spin each other.
This is incredible stupidity. As low as automotive spirit can go. Is this how we are going to make America great again? By destroying its automotive heritage in the most idiotic way?
The real "secret" to the cars were you didn't have to baby the front end. If you know the cars well enough, you'd notice that the front fenders were welded to a steel header panel that attached them together across the front above the grill, and another in the vent intake between the back of the hood and th bottom of the windshield. Once you bolted the flat hood down tight into the "hole" it sat in, as opposed to on like most cars, it was a one piece front clip. No matter how hard you hit it, it would only wrinkle a little at a time.
After these were banned, because if you had five or six running against each other, it might have been whoever had the most fuel would win. With the largest legal gas tank, that could be the next morning (LOL). Many switched to the the full sized GM wagons. Lower the tailgate about an inch or two, then weld it everywhere you could, then it was close to being as strong as a Imperial.
DDS029 the sedan caprice is stronger i think. If its not so rusty and they weld the trunk up so its a one piece rear and front end it might be even stronger than a wagon because the roof will always make it bend down.
My guess would be for fuel economy. You could only get it so fast in such a small track, so you only needed to be close on power-to-weight ratio. Because you would need enough gas to run it long enough if at the end you were facing another Imperial, and had to have enough gas to out run it.
That was one of the most beautful examples of racing Ive ever seen. Im from the midwest USA where demo derbies are common, but this race was extraordinary!
Sounds alot like a aussie hemi 265 6cylinder in that ruthless beast,I cant think of any other old 6 cylinder that will scream like that its definitely not a v8.
Derby should be banned totally ,they cars spew all sorts of fluids and such all over the place and worse the destruction of much classic American iron ,derby idiots are a very good argument for abortion
Yes this certainly is a crime. Watching this saddens me to think what wonderful well made cars the Imperials were. Very sad to end up like this. I am glad I will only see this once. Definitely NO 'Like' for this one.
It wouldn't be so bad but the car was actually in a restorable state. Bought direct from the US just to be smashed up here. To me they have no respect for classics. They say they can buy and they can do what they want with it, but if they like banger racing, find a car that wouldn't be as valuable or rare. And these people wonder why the classic community dislike them?
If follow-ins are banned in every other banger formula why not in national bangers as well? I see no sense whatsoever in piling into the back of a car that is already stopped. If you are driving modern cars then they just can't take the sort of rear end collision the older iron can, the buggers fold up like an envelope. So,why not keep that sort of thing a D.D.
they are imperial, not chrysler! and they are too damn rare to demo them! a lot of good parts on them if they are not worth saving to restore! demoing them is bullshit!
Really enjoyed that!. Two questions for you. Where is this stadium, and can you tell my why banger racers 'line in'?. Never understood why they do that. They stop racing and asking for their car to be totalled. Cheers
The engine was probably worth far more? Maybe bought as a rolling chassis and received a Ford 6-pot. Leaves a lot of room at the front to soak up damage. Acceleration doesn't matter when there's that much metal moving. The 6-pot engine maybe has better acceleration and the stick-shift manual trans is far stronger.
The frames are pretty much the same from the late 50s (57? I think?) thru the 66 imperials, I've even seen some other late 50s Chrysler/dodges that had that massive 8" wide frame under it like the imperial... but for the older ones it's a lot to do with prepping the car and pre-bending it. On the winged imperials you fold the wings down to the trunk lid and run althread to the frame, or weld it to the trunk lid if allowed.. on the front end, where the fenders over hung above the head lights you beat that down and weld or bolt it to the core support or even top of the bumper depending on what bumper and where it's mounted and how much the sheet metal over hangs... I've personally only ran boxcar (64-66) imperials but I've seen some tough early 60s ones and also done a good bit of research on making the older ones tough because I was going to run a 61 imperial one time until they banned imperials at the tracks I ran mainly because everyone got tired of being beat by my 64, I'd annihilate fresh cars with it, the ole girl still had some runs left in her, it broke my heart to put it in the crusher...
At least it's only yank tanks they're destroying and not proper classics like Escorts, Sierras and so on... You can always rely on Jonesy to put on a good show as well.
One of the best incar's I've seen, really good to see the smash from inside and then from outside as well. Also good to see a handshake and good sportmanship, which seems to be a dying art nowadays.
